This political drama follows Lin Yueh-Chen in the lead role. This representative of the YZD party along with another party member, Weng Wen-Fang, fights against all odds to win the position. When the other candidates are ruthless in their endeavours, Yueh-Chen and Wen-Fang hold onto their morals which is no easy feat. They weave through betrayals, gender-biasing issues, and the secrets of the cruel political world and fight to achieve the position.
At the end of Wave Makers, Yueh-Chan wins the election and Wen-Fang’s public fickle has died slowly. Moreover, the media and public aren’t stressing over her homosexuality as much as before. YZD’s opposition, MHD party’s leader, Chang Ya-Ching (Gingle Wang Ching), is exposed as well.

For a series that spans 8 hour-long episodes, the narration and the plotline needs to be highly compelling. While Wave Makers is not a drama that needs constant attention to detail, it is still an intriguing watch. The on-the-edge excitement and thrill are notably missing from the series. Wave Makers does stir up a few waves but not enough to affect the ocean of political thrillers.
It goes all in with the story and the writers Jian Li-Ying and Yan Shi-Ji have targeted feminism brilliantly. The most popular complaint from the series is its soft blows, it doesn’t deal with the issues with the sternness that was expected. Nonetheless, Wave Makers can easily qualify as a lazy weekend binge best enjoyed when you are in the mood for something casual. When it comes down to rating the series, I wouldn’t be giving it any more than 6 on 10.
