The Israeli miniseries with the same title, produced by Ron Leshem & Daphna Levin, served as the inspiration for the American tv drama television series Euphoria, which Sam Levinson made and primarily wrote for HBO. The series shows a group of students as they navigate identification, trauma, drug, self-harm, family, friends, love, and sex. Rue Bennett (Zendaya), a rehabilitating teenage drug addict who tries to find her position in the world, serves as the series’ primary character.

Euphoria Cast

Alexa Demie, Zendaya, Astro, Storm Reid, Eric Dane, Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Nika King, Hunter Schafer, & Sydney Sweeney, and Barbie Ferreira were to star in the pilot, it was revealed in June 2018. Algee Smith and Austin Abrams were both casts in October to take Astro’s spot as McKay. Kelvin Harrison Jr. entered the ensemble in April 2020; however, by May 2021, he had left because of schedule issues. Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., Minka Kelly, and Dominic Fike joined the cast in August.

Euphoria Story

Rue greets Jules when she gets home from rehab; Nate & Maddy try to make one another envious; Kat is under pressure to shed some pounds.

Teenager Rue Bennett purchases additional drugs from her pal Fezco as soon as she returns home after rehab after overdosing. Jules, a newcomer to the area, is enrolled in summer classes. Kat, a classmate, extends an invitation to her to attend Chris McKay, a well-known college football star. Jules first says no and decides to hook up with an older man she met through a hookup app. One night when Rue gets home late, her mother has her take a drug test. Rue asks her close friend Lexi for several of her clean urine so she can pass it.

When discussing their classmate Cassie’s past relationships, McKay & his friend, Nate learn that Cassie & McKay are considering. It is revealed that the man Jules sees is Nate’s father. She gives a false impression of her age, the two have sex, and then she heads to the party. Maddy, who ended a relationship with Nate, engages in sexual activity with Tyler at the party to make Nate envious. Jules nearly attacked Nate after he harassed her for too long. She meets Rue as she leaves, and the two of them head home.

It is simple to overlook Cassie’s previous season of darkness because she is currently experiencing such a difficult season, played by the incredible Sydney Sweeney. In one of the most iconic sequences from Euphoria so far, she did get pregnant with Chris McKay (Algee Smith) but had an abortion.

But this year, Nate Jacobs, the ex-boyfriend of Cassie’s friend, is the main character in her story, and a rollercoaster of feelings has resulted from that. Something is lacking from Cassie’s plot this season, despite the funny sequence in which Rue tells Maddy about Cassie’s friendship with Nate. However, perhaps the character’s way of processing the trauma is taking place at this exact moment.

Even though the Jacobs family has a history of problems, there is always a way to make them appear worse. It is revealed that a third of Jacobs’s siblings is mysteriously absent in an episode that focuses on Nate.

The youngest, Jacobs, is not mentioned again. The spectator assumes something awful occurred to the youngster in the family picture as only Nate’s brother Aaron appears in the household.

The plot was abandoned in favour of an uninteresting concentration on Kat’s connection with her lover, the friendly and decent Ethan (Austin Abrams). In the few situations Kat has been in this season, she has hardly ever done anything unrelated to Ethan. In episode five, Cassie and Maddy’s argument, her lines were even muffled.

It is tough to avoid wondering what behind-the-scenes issues caused Kat to lose her role as a prominent character.

Episode: Stand Still Like The Humming Bird.

In Euphoria Season 2 Episode 5, “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird,” Rue reaches her breaking point.

Euphoria has experienced problems with good character development and tying together numerous plot lines involving the entire and supporting characters. But when it concentrates on Rue, the show never falters.

Zendaya is the foundation of EuphoriaEuphoria, and “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird” is the ideal illustration of this. It would be unfortunate if she didn’t receive another Emmy for her fascinating, dark, and visceral act in Season 2, Episode 5. If the public has not realized that she is a force to reckon with, it is to their detriment.

Without her, the show lacks actual substance because there isn’t a good enough plot for any supporting characters. Even though she causes it to herself, Rue has to deal with the everyday drama that dwarfs the other members of the group experience.

That’s not to suggest that keeping your attention on Rue isn’t occasionally tiring. She usually puts herself in a situation where she needs assistance to get out but keeps quiet to those closest to her. By remaining silent, she separates herself and makes matters ten times more complicated than they need to be.

Rue’s intervention with the help of her friends/family serves as an excellent example of what may happen to addicts throughout the show. It’s brutal, frightening, violent, and difficult to tolerate. Although the viewer has yet to witness Rue descend in this way, she is the picture of what an addiction appears like, which is unknown. she knows how to keep her addiction going; she ruins practically all of her connections in the course of one episode.

Episode: Shook Ones – Pt II.

Rue chaperones Gia at the festival while attempting to get sober for Jules; Kat misinterprets a situation; Jules runs into Cal, and Nate confesses his true identity.

A young Jules self-harms after being admitted to a mental health facility. She exits and begins the transformation. Rue encounters Ali in the present and expresses her affection for Jules. Nate and Maddy argue while Jules & Rue decide to forget about their kiss at the carnival. Cassie is outraged when McKay, speaking to Nate’s father, Cal, refuses to name her his lover because of Cassie’s notoriety. Following their molly use, Maddy and Cassie argue across from Nate’s family while Cassie mingles with Daniel, a classmate. Jules learns that the hotel’s guest.

While hanging out with Ethan, Kat notices him conversing with a pretty girl and leaves. Later, she has sex with a well-known high school alumnus. Rue looks for Gia with Jules’ assistance and eventually comes upon her high. Maddy’s neck receives bruises as a result of Nate’s grasp. She confronts him with the pictures on his phone and decides to move on. Jules assures Cal that she won’t tell someone about the night together when he confronts her. When Jules meets “Tyler,” she learns that he is Nate, who has been using the nude photos they exchanged as a kind of blackmail on Jules. She then visits Rue’s place, where they share a kiss.

Episode: Trying To Get To Heaven Prior They Close The Way.

Flashback of Fez. Ashtray uses a hammer to murder Mouse. A New Year’s Evening party’s restroom is where Cassie and Nate had sex. Maddy pounds the door. Elliot sells narcotics to Rue. Jules and Rue rekindle their romance. Before defeating Nate, Fezco chats with Lexi.

But as I’ve already mentioned, I appreciate my EuphoriaEuphoria the most when everything is gleaming. Similar to Season 1, Season 2 opens with the entire ensemble gathered at a New Year’s Evening house party, where the whole event is complete mayhem. While Maddy is on the other side of the door, Cassie and Nate have a relationship. The flirtation between Fez and Lexi starts. Following the abandonment of the train, Rue and Jules have an awkward interaction, and Nate is given the cathartic conclusion we have all been waiting for. This episode is so action-packed and brilliantly sets up for the second season—McKay even makes an appearance!

Episode: Ruminations – Big And Little Bullys.

Flashback to Cal. Rue claims to be only using marijuana. Rue receives more medicines from Laurie. Cassie develops an obsession with Nate. Regarding Oklahoma, everybody is perplexed. The idea for a play comes to Lexi. Ashtray beats Cal. Nate decides to reunite with Maddy.

This haphazard, midseason connector episode’s excellence is entirely unjustified. But the show found a way to fit three of its best sequences into a single episode. The worst part of the film begins with young Cal, a wrestler, who falls in love with his best buddy but is sidelined by the girlfriend’s pregnancy. Such a crippling romantic opening hasn’t occurred since Up.

Second, after Cal goes into Fez’s home and promptly has his ass whooped, Ashtray and Fez have a conversation about “Jewel.” Finally, there is the bathroom scene where Cassie asks if she is going to Oklahoma, which is probably my favorite scene from the whole series. Every character’s writing builds to Cassie’s rage. Watching that scene made me happier than I’ve ever been. The moment in which Cassie is dressed as Maddy in this episode also includes when Rue receives the stash via Laurie and that we know about Lexi’s play for the first time. Although it has less cohesion than the top three, every moment of discord is excellent here.

Episode: And Salt The Earth Behind You.

Rue’s renal illness becomes better. Maddy takes Nate’s DVD. Cal and Nate fight. Cassie has a miscarriage. At the winter formal, Kat and Ethan reconcile. Nate and Maddy attempt to enrage one another. While Jules boards the train with Rue, Rue chooses to stay behind and use drugs.

The first season of EuphoriaEuphoria finishes even more powerfully than it began. The ensemble is scuttling about the dance floor, venting their little complaints as we return to another celebration (a school-sponsored winter formal). Nate and Maddy are competing in a dance-off. While Kat and Ethan eventually understand, Jules and Rue profess their affection for one another.

Shakespeare wished he could have invented the tragicomedy created when the painful scene of Cassie having an abortion is combined with Jules’s choice to abandon Rue at the railway station. After Rue’s relapse, represented as a musical whirlwind in which she is carried down a street by a group of burgundy dancers, the entire season comes to a close. The beauty, terror, & frenzy of her use were expertly woven together in this experimental sequence, which EuphoriaEuphoria loves to see.

Episode: Pilot.

Flashback with Rue. Rue makes a full recovery. Jules gets together with Cal. Their virginity of Kat is lost. To make Nate envious, Maddy flirts. Jules uses a knife on herself and runs into Rue.

The first episode of Euphoria was HOT, and the pilot featured every aspect of the show that fans could enjoy. Up to their elbows in antics, the characters are introduced fully developed. Lexi is making Rue urinate. Nate and Maddy are at odds. All three, Jules, Kat, & Cassie, have toxic boyfriends. Not to mention, we see Jules and Rue’s first encounter and the beginning of their romance. The most OK episode of EuphoriaEuphoria are typically centred around parties, and this premiere is no exception.

Episode: Trouble Don’t Last Always.

At a diner, Rue runs into Ali. They talk about his belief in her ability to recover and her sobriety, addiction, relationship with Jules, and loss of her father.

There is no doubting how heartbreaking and flawless these moments and acting are, much like with Jules’s episode. Despite the entire episode consisting of a single discussion at a restaurant table, Zendaya & Colman Domingo are providing award-worthy monologues, and I was completely engrossed the whole time.

Even if the Julie episode has a more developed plot, it lacks the added energy Domingo’s Ali has here as he fights with Rue. I hope all the characters get their special episode in the future. Imagine Maddy working a full hour in a diner.

Episode: Fuck Anyone Who Is Not A Sea Blob.

Jules visits a counselling session. She discusses her connection with Rue, her mother’s addiction, transitioning and detransitioning Nate’s catfishing, and the reasons behind her excessive intoxication on Halloween.

It’s challenging to rank the special episodes because, on the one hand, they represent fantastic writing and acting. These are essentially just hour-long discussions exploring the emotional scars left over from the first season. The episode of Jules tells a lot regarding her past and how her connection with her alcoholic mother affects her bond with Rue.

Although this episode is a flawless, stand-alone pearl, I believe its potential for greatness is limited without the support of the entire Euphoria cast. The show is excellent when the whole group is present, but in this episode, Jules from the actual characters is the only one speaking with the therapist, whom we had not seen before.

Episode: All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned For A Thing I Cannot Name.

Cassie overruns the set of Lexi’s play. Ash and the police engage in gunfire. Nate reports Cal to the police. On his guitar, Elliot performs a song by Rue. Instead of saying “I love you” to Jules, Rue re-connects with Lexi.

I feel awful. This Season 2 premiere of EuphoriaEuphoria unquestionably wins the prize for the show’s most melancholy episode. My life has been cut short by Ash/Fez and everything they have done. Because of her anxiety, my roommate stood in the kitchen as I described every agonizing second of that sequence, which appeared to last fifty years.

The episode seems to spend too much time on relatively unrelated plots while leaving relevant questions from the series unsolved, even if it did close up several plot elements (goodbye Cal, Nate’s girlfriend bowl). Is Rue still liable to a suspected human trafficker for thousands of dollars? Uncertain, but Elliot did give us an entire, uncut guitar solo. How has Jules absorbed the season’s events? No idea, but Lexi’s IT team came up with some amusing one-liners. The season finale offered some heartbreakingly moving moments, but it also felt unbalanced and disorganized, especially in light of how tightly-knit previous episodes were.

Episode: The Theatre And Its Double.

Performers present Lexi’s play. Fez commits to attend the performance but never does. Nate storms out of the space after it accuses him of being gay.

“Now, is this fucking drama about us,” you think. Yes. Well, it is Maddy because, in all honesty, the writing is appallingly subpar. No one will comprehend what this performance is about, similar to the old musical in High School Musical 3. This episode was quite challenging to follow because it alternated here between the performance itself, the version with the idea of characters stepping in, and sequences apart from the performance with the same actors. Was Nate’s dream about being molested in the play? Is the play entirely imaginary, or is it supposed to be true?

How did Lexi find 40 ripped popular kids to have an orgy in a locker room? The school gave their approval? Did she have permission to use “Waiting Out for a Hero” under the musical rights? A LOT OF QUESTIONS. Even if the show’s final dance number was puzzling, the show’s daring in telling us that it is “creating a play about each other” is flawless. Even though this series was a waking nightmare, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Episode: Made You Look.

Kat’s reminiscence. Kat is a paid camgirl. Rue is told to calm down by Jules. On Nate’s phone, Maddy sees explicit photos. Rue tries to procure drugs, kisses Jules, and then phones Ali for assistance.

The Kat flashback is perhaps the finest of Season 1, and it’s fun to see her guzzle those cocktails while on holiday (I’m still waiting for my censors to approve my “I Drank 72 Virgin Pina Coladas in a Week So This Is What Went To Me” post.) and later develop into a fanfiction icon.

Additionally, in the present, we see her debut as a camgirl and the unveiling of her new attire. Other noteworthy moments include Rue’s stunning, striking, and sensitive first kiss with Jules and Maddy’s startling conclusion that Nate could be gay. This episode is a sparkling, dishy blast of pleasure, and the reality that it just doesn’t make the top 10 shows how excellent EuphoriaEuphoria can be.
