Florida Man Season 1 Review

Florida Man Review And Ending Explained

Restitution was a word that I understood well until Mike Valentine started to redefine the meaning. And what meaning does he define by tricking people into helping him and trying to help people! Florida Man begins by introducing Mike as he sits in a circle with several people and confesses how gambling took away everything from him. Right from the beginning we are told how deeply Mike is repugnant to Florida but Moss leaves him no choice. Since Mike is restituting and owes Moss, he couldn’t decline. And of course, there is the fact that Mike shares a deep connection with Delly, hidden albeit.

Some deep buried secrets await him in his hometown as he begins his search for his boss’ girlfriend, Delly. He comes across his dear father, Sonny Valentine who is also an ex-cop with a deep affixion towards crime. Leaving behind his ex-wife, whom he still feels a connection with, Mike has embarked on a journey to find Delly. Mike is determined to believe that he is doing the right thing but whenever he comes across Delly, his moral compass slips.

Is Delly Alive?

Delly ran away to Florida in order to grab the pirate’s treasure–a vast amount of gold coins. In order to escape the clutches of her so-called boyfriend, Moss, Delly stages her death with the help of a local doctor. Of course, Mike catches her and calls the bluff on her lie. Meanwhile, the news of Delly’s death is spreading like wildfire and Moss has caught a sniff of it. He prepares an impressive eulogy for her but what he truly wants isn’t the love of his life but the pen drive–or computer thingy as he calls it.

Delly includes Mike in her plan of stealing the tressure while hiding secrets of her own that Mike isn’t aware of. On the other hand, Mike has reunited with his sister, Patsy, after he tried to save a woman who was supposedly drowning on the beach. His relationship with his father, Sonny, is still strained though. He still believes that his father led him to the world of gambling and is responsible for his mother’s suicide.

Then, there is Iris, Mike’s ex-wife who has taken upon the investigation of Gilbert Franco’s death. She believes Moss is responsible for it and Mike will be caught in the crossfire if she doesn’t save him. So, she ends up in Florida, too. With Mike and Delly’s blossoming relationship, Iris has certainly dropped at the wrong time.

Delly West: Not A Side Character But The Main Lead

Florida Man Review And Ending Explained

While we initially believe that Iris is a threat to Mike and Delly’s relationship, Iris does prove us right. Meeting with Delly and confronting her about Mike’s gambling addiction, Iris doesn’t only try to put a dent in their relationship. She also implants a voice tracker on her. With Moss in town and Mike and Delly still trying to figure out where the tressure-filled truck is, Iris’ tracker proves to be a major twist in the show.

Delly West, whom we assume to be another money-addicted criminal, is a woman with many layers. The heist isn’t just because of money lust, Delly needs the money to get away from the man who killed her father. Moss, who comes across as intimidating in theory, is just a dumb tool in the story. He is easily trapped in Delly’s plan even if he is quite violent himself. As Florida Man comes to the climax, Delly is found exclaiming that she ain’t another side character in anyone else’s story but rather the main lead. And she does prove her words true at the end of Florida Man!

Why Did Delly Kill Mose? Was It A Trap For Mike?

The climax of this Netflix thriller is brimming with surprises and secrets. When Moss finds out that Delly is alive, he transforms into a ball of rage and drops in announced at the motel room Delly and Mike were staying in. He is just about to kill her when Delly tries to placate him using the infamous tressure as bait. Sonny, his sidekicks, Mike and Delly were all trying to find out about the said tressure while Andy, a police officer, was collecting shreds of evidence against them. Now that Moss is involved, nothing is simple anymore.

Iris makes Mike hear Delly and Moss’ conversation in which she discards Mike as a ploy. Feeling bitter and betrayed, Mike ends up planning an ambushment. Iris is shot, Sonny is arrested and Mike has turned against Delly. As Florida Man climaxes, Mike and Moss find themselves in a heated clash near the dock where the supposed treasure resides. Though Moss doesn’t seem like a man who would be able to hold it up against an ex-cop, he does surprisingly well.

Moss gains the upper hand and is about to blow Mike’s brain out when Delly ends his life. Here ensues a heated confrontation in which Delly accuses Mike of not trusting her. Of course, she certainly made it a tough task to do so but Delly did it to save Mike from Moss’ wrath. At the end of their argument, Delly asks him to choose between her and his ex-wife. Since Mike is restituting to Iris, he chooses to go to her and let Delly be free of him.

As the series starts to near climax, we witness how Sonny, Patsy and Mike confess their feelings regarding the death of Mrs Valentine. They have lost the tressure and the supposed 100 million dollars. Patsy is no longer stuck with her husband, Deacon. Iris is healing well and has solved her first case as a detective. Everything is getting settled down but not the storm inside Mike. But he soon finds out that Delly is on a yacht with the help of GPS. He soon hops on a boat and rushes towards Delly but he soon finds a treat, too. The pirate’s tressure along with Delly awaits him!

The story of this mind-blowing mystery thriller is indeed engrossing with the screenplay never feeling dull. Being a limited Netflix series, Florida Man doesn’t disappoint for a moment. I quite enjoyed this thriller, especially Delly’s strong personality and the sizzling chemistry between Delly and Mike. Overall, Florida Man stands at a stellar 8.5 on 10.
