The dead lands in an action-adventure tv series adapted from the 2014 New Zealand film of the same name. The series is written by Glenn Standring and directed by Peter Burger and Michael Hurst. It is well received among the viewers, but sadly it did not reach the mass audience, so only a few people have seen the series as of yet.
According to IMDB reviews, the series can be considered an underrated gem, those who have seen the series can’t stop praising it. The story follows Waka Nuku Rao a murdered Maori warrior when he walks to the afterlife his ancestors restrict his entry, he’s told to bring honor among his people in order to walk to the other world.
The Dead Lands Season 2 Release Date
Shudder has not given any statement regarding the series after the last season. But since there’s no specific information related to its cancellation yet, we can assume that there are still chances for its renewal. Many tv series either got canceled or pushed back because of covid the dead lands could also be a part of those many unfortunate series that got affected because of the pandemic. We’re not certain if the series actually got pushed back because of covid but the delay of season 2 hints towards the pandemic nevertheless we still hope for it’s renewal.

The Dead Lands Season 2 Story
The series is entirely based on Maori culture, so we might get to see different aspects of the culture with an interesting storyline followed by some amazing characters. The first season mostly focused on the Maori’s respect for the dead, so in the next season can expect to see their values, beliefs, custom, and practices. We’re certain about one thing, the second season is going to be extraordinary with more fantasy elements, mythology and beautiful landscapes.
The Dead Lands Season 1 Recap
A murdered Maori warrior is denied entrance to the after world and asked to pay for his sin by going back to the land of the living to bring honor to its people in order to walk the path of afterlife. When he goes back to the land of living he learns that death has started walking on earth and have been tormenting his people. He works alongside a young girl Mehe to return the order to the world to enter his next life. They both work together in order to make the world a better place for their people
In the last episode of the series the dead people call for Mehe, she meets her dad, he tells about the dark story of their lineage. She finds out that she’s in fact dreaming then her uncle threatens her to do something for him if she indeed wants to save her dad, he asks her to give her life to the world. He directs her towards the south and tells her about the warrior who can help her.
Waka meets the witch in his dream the witch warns Waka, and tells him that he did not defeat the warriors in fact they were the ones who let him win. He tells her he defeated them, but she just ignores his words she goes on about how he can defeat one worrier, but he can’t defeat three of them. She tells him that they let him go, waka questions why? She tells him the dead sighs, and they scheme, beware of the dead. Mehe tells him that the dead lie, so he doesn’t need to think about the witches’ words
Waka tells Mehe that the guy is planning something, he’s going to sacrifice them. Mehe doesn’t take his words and refuse to believe him she tells him that he also wants to fix the world just like them. She asks him to join her they need to help him. She then tells him he helped her to speak with her ancestors Waka tells her she shouldn’t have done that it’s dangerous
