Elfen Lied Season 2 Release Date Is Not Confirmed!

Humans are the only highly intelligent species inhabiting the planet and we can’t expect any species whether created artificially or occurring naturally to oust it from existence in accordance with a personal vendetta or can we?

Well, the anime Elfen Lied surely brings this phantasm into reality with the introduction of beings or species called Dioclonius, whose origin is spurred by a deadly disease and intends to eradicate humans for the atrocities they have committed. So, the story basically revolves around the old concept of what if someday humans become the prey with some improvisations often of disturbing kinds instilled here and there. The show’s attempt to juxtapose the emotions of humans and these other species is worth praising. Greed, love, hatred, prejudice, alienation, regret, and all the salient and subtle human emotions will all find their place in the form of themes in the show.

In the end, it will leave you wondering that what makes humanity really use the acronym human, has the human race debased to an extent that the distinction between the vicious, gore-seeking Dioclonius and humans have become fuzzy. The show’s origin can be traced back to its manga upon which it is based, written, and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto. The manga first made its appearance on June 6, 2002, and concluded within a matter of 3 months on 25th August 2005.

The first season of the anime aired from July 25, 2004, to October 17, 2004, with 13 episodes under its belt. So, it has been more than a decade since the anime first premiered, and the cliffhanger ending, or rather the seemingly inconclusive ending was also taken notice of, by the fans, which led to doubts emanating in their minds regarding the future of the anime.

Now back to the point, as of now no official confirmation regarding the renewal of the season or even the cancellation for that matter can’t be gleaned in any way. This can be attributed to the fact that the studio involved in the show’s production named Arms studio went bankrupt in August 2020, and could sustain neither the company nor its project(via Trinkid). So, the only glimmer of hope seems to be in the form of changing hands of studios, until then you may have to satisfy yourselves by watching the OVA episodes.

The anime’s popularity owing to the fact that it was the inspiration for the Duffer brothers to create all time Netflix hit ‘Stranger Things’ supplements or even invigorates the show’s popularity. But, this shouldn’t be the criteria for whether you choose to watch the show or not, the criteria that should matter to you is whether you are fine with highly disturbing, graphic sequences that may even give you nightmares, so to say.
