Lifetime produced some stellar series in the past few years but Devious Maids remains one of its earlier hits. Created by Desperate Housewives’ director, Marc Cherry, the series is jam-packed with drama and dread. It is a classic soap opera that, as one of the protagonists, Roselyn Sánchez mentioned is a “guilty pleasure” for many. Cherry’s drama boasts a boisterous set of characters at its forefront and their surprisingly compelling lives. Admittingly, the said lives are a bit too much considering the protagonists are simpleton Maidss. Nonetheless, the blunders this girl gang got themselves entangled in kept the series alive.

Devious Maids Season 5 Release Date
Cherry adapted the Mexican telenovela, Ellas son…la Alegría del Hogar (They Are…the Joy of the Home” in early 2011. Devious Maids was originally set to premiere on ABC but was ultimately picked up by Lifetime in 2012. The debut season garnered millions of views and was one of the fastest-growing series on the streaming platform. The Latino-based series was a healthy blend of ambitions and mysteries, sprinkled with a confetti of drama. It generated such a wild response, that Lifetime approved a second season almost immediately. A thirteen-episode-long sequel aired between April and July 2014.
Season 3 premiered in August 2015, followed by a fourth iteration in August 2016. In September 2016, Lifetime ruled out a Devious Maids Season 5 without revealing the reason behind it. Despite Season 4’s intriguing finale and cliffhangers, the streaming platform chose to shut down the franchise and reveal the answers themselves. The cancellation came as a surprise to millions of fans but the showrunners haven’t yet clarified what went down in reality. Many speculations have flourished since then but to date, Devious Maids has shown no signs of a renewal.

The Devious Maids Could Make a Stellar Comeback, But Won’t
Marc’s comedy-drama is centred around four women, who work as maids in Beverly Hills California. The glamorous town is brimming with opulence and influential people, capable of snapping necks and lighting fires in a blink. On the surface though, these rich folks are adorned in glitter and polite smiles. Beneath those fake smirks and courtesy, these people harbour secrets only these devious maids know. Unfortunately–or fortunately to them–this isn’t just a privilege but a goldmine for them and they make sure to scrape it to its full potential.
Marisol Suarez (Ana Ortiz) was a former professor who chose to work as a maid and prove her son’s innocence of murder. Rosie Falta (Danila Ramirez) is an undocumented immigrant while Carmen Luna (Roselyn Sanchez) harbours an unyielding passion for singing. Zoila Diaz (Judy Reyes), the last member of the clan, is unequivocally determined to keep her daughter, Valentina (Edy Ganem), away from her boss’ son, Remi Delatour (Drew Van Acker). Devious Maids highlights each of these characters’ journeys as they deal with their conflicting personal lives along with the secrets and mysteries they keep coming across.
The finale season had Marisol disappearing suddenly, leaving room for a plausible Devious Maids Season 5. Now, post its cancellation, only theories and speculations have remained. The creators have scope to create another season and make a huge comeback, but they won’t as Lifetime has made clear a couple of years back. However, a reboot is still possible, given that the Devious Army is still clinging onto hope for another round.
