After Arjun Reddy and its Hindi equivalent Kabir Singh, Sandeep Reddy Vanga sets new records, and not only at the box office with his apparent action thriller, Animal. He redefines the father-son bond, shows how much a person could be toxic, and asserts that there is no length one wouldn’t cross for revenge. The highlight of this grand spectacle remains Vanga’s perception of masculinity and the way the entire cast rolls along with it. Honestly, it amazes me to call it a highlight but there is no other sentence I would use to describe the storyline anyway. Despite the sheer violence and contempt, Ranbir Kapoor manages to turn this blood-feast into an emotional soap opera.
Now, that Animal has entered the 800 crore box office collection ring, it is suffice to say that Vanga knows how to trigger the audience. If there is one thing I could appreciate from Vanga’s Animal is that it is absolutely unapologetic. The movie doesn’t try to roam in the “grey” area, it dances in the smoky flames and owns every last swirl. Maybe, this is why Kapoor’s film is the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and is currently enjoying a massive success in North America, too. The multilingual film boasts an impressive cast list, with Deol standing out as a ruthless antagonist worthy of being the grisly Kapoor’s enemy.
Long before the debut film’s launch, the screenplay writers, Pranay Reddy Vanga and Suresh Bandaru, had plans to make the film a franchise. Sandeep, who also serves as the writer for the film, urged the audience to sit through the post-credits before the film launched in theatres on December 1. The actor-turned-director’s request doesn’t seem unreasonable now because the credits confirm that a sequel is in order. Animal Part 2 has been greenlit and will probably be released in late 2024 or early 2025.
As for the exact number of parts, there is no official confirmation. There are high chance that this mega blockbuster will be a trilogy like Salman Khan’s Tiger franchise and Ajay Devgan’s Singham saga. Of course, Animal is in no way comparable to any of these films. What is Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal Movie Exactly?
In one sentence, Animal is a cycle of bloodshed that runs on the tires of misogynist prejudices and dispensable vociferousness. To be descriptive, Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Ranvijay Singh, called “Vijay” throughout the film. He is a tormented man who yearns for his father, Balbir Singh’s (Anil Kapoor) love. Throughout his childhood, Vijay has been starved of love and human contact because his father, a high-achieving entrepreneur is devoted to his family business, Swastik Steel. His craving soon becomes a throbbing need that eventually bundles up as unbridled fury that consumes and obliterates everyone who dares to cross Vijay’s path.
As a mere teenager, Vijay is sent to a boarding school in America after he attacks his sister’s bullies with an AK-47. His longing fuels his anger and makes him so self-centered that he demands his childhood crush, Geetanjali (Rashmika Mandana) to break off her engagement and marry him. Eventually, he convinces Geetanjali and ties the knot with her after Balbir kicks him out of the house. Vijay’s hatred towards his sister, Reet’s (Saloni Batra) husband, Varun Pratap Malhotra (Siddhant Karnick), intensifies as he moves to America with Geetanjali.
However, 8 years later, as Balbir is attacked by the Haque brothers, Asrar (Babloo Prithiveeraj) and a mute Abrar (Bobby Deol), Vijay returns to India. He lands in a brutal war with Asrar and murders him, meanwhile sustaining a severe heart injury. As he wakes up from a deep coma, he discovers that he has received a heart transplant from Zoya Riaz’s (Ripti Dimri) fiance. The two eventually get closer as Vijay continues scheming against Abrar and trying to protect his father.
Animal’s Ending Paves Path For a Sequel
As Zoya and Vijay’s relationship develops, the latter’s connection with Balbir starts strengthening, too. His alleged relationship with Zoya has blown apart Geetanjali and their two children’s lives. Despite that, Vijay stays in touch with Zoya, knowing full well that she has been sent by Abrar with only one mission–honey trap him. As she admits Abrar’s plans to Vijay, he simply accepts that he knew who she was right from the start and “just wanted to discover the identity of the true perpetrator”.
As Vijay goes on yet another rampage with the help of his Punjabi cousins, he discovers that Abrar is Azim’s son, who happens to be Balbir’s cousin. This entire family drama aside, Vijay still slaughters Abrar because the latter doesn’t promise that he won’t attack Balbir again. As the family celebrates Diwali a while later, Vijay learns that Balbir is suffering from terminal cancer and has now started to regret his upbringing.
Balbir, even though guilty of not understanding his own son, remains incapable of truly expressing his feelings towards Vijay. At a point, he does embrace Vijay and asks for forgiveness but until then, the latter has ruined everything. As the credits roll down, we are greeted by Vijay’s doppelgänger, who also happens to be in a relationship with Zoya.

What Is Animal Part 2 “Animal Park” About?
The credits don’t stop there; it also teases a darker and more aggressive sequel in which Zoya happens to be pregnant. However, she is unsure whether the child is of Vijay or Aziz, who has undergone plastic surgery to embody Vijay. The menacing adversary, Aziz, does a commendable job of adopting Vijay’s stern frown, brusque tone, and reckless behavior. The credits also reveal that Aziz is the now-dead Abrar’s brother, who has sworn vengeance on Vijay and isn’t about to go down like the latter did.
The final words on the screen read, “Animal Park” and “Visit Soon”, confirming that a sequel is in order. It will probably be another mishmash of emotions, violence, and bucketloads of profanity. Okay, scratch that. It will certainly be a dive straight into the pool of blood and menace. Hopefully, Geetanjali would have a broader role and more dialogues that she would use to defend herself against Vijay’s ruthlessness. Oh, and Aziz is a former butcher, with professional experience chopping off heads. This definitely makes Animal Park a piece of enticing news for people who are into this kind of action thriller.
The Cast List of Animal 2
Ranbir, who is renowned for his previous romantic films such as Brahmastra and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, has done a stellar job embodying Vijay. There is no doubt that he is the catalyst to Animal’s massive success. He single-handedly leads the cast, silencing every voice that doesn’t belong to his own. The “alpha” wolf he has been trying to portray comes across convincingly but isn’t as effective as it could have been if Vijay wasn’t such a questionable character.
Anyway, next is Bobby Deol, with his relatable backstory and stellar performance as Abrar Haque. Deol has portrayed several antagonists, especially against Anil Kapoor (cue Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol’s Race 3 here) but his portrayal of Abrar in Animal is beyond commendable. However, he wouldn’t be reprising his role in the second iteration. Instead, his butcher brother, Aziz (Kapoor again) would become the antagonist.
The female stars, Rashmika Mandanna as Geetanjali and Tripti Dimri as Zoya will reprise their roles in the sequel. However, the chances of Anil returning aren’t high since the sequel takes place a few years after Abrar’s demise. Of course, a few new faces will be seen in the upcoming Animal Park.
