When Will Prime Video Announce the Shehar Lakhot Season 2 Release Date?

Following suit of the Suvinder Vicky and Barun Sobti starrer, Kohra, another neo-noir crime drama, Shehar Lakhot features an absorbing plot. It is a rather convoluted drama that chronicles multiple stories simultaneously. But the director, Navdeep Singh, gracefully carries out the execution, even if the result isn’t as picture-perfect as his previous works, Manorama and NH10. This Prime Video drama is essentially a genre mishmash, unravelling the intricacies of politics, love and crime. Despite the series having roots in several tropes, the crux of the plot lies in the protagonist, Dev Tomar’s (Priyanshu Painyulli) mysterious past. To diversify the attention from Dev, Singh has brought in multiple characters and toyed with a rather shaky plot.

Yet, Shehar Lakhot Season 2 has become a trending topic. Of course, the concoction of humour, thrill, romance and idiosyncrasies is to be credited for the success. Here is a breakdown of the entire series, emphasising the plausibility of the sequel.

Shehar Lakhot Season 2 Release Date

Shehar Lakhot is a fictional crime drama helmed by Devika Bhagat and Navdeep Singh. The duo began kindling the idea of a peculiar series a while ago and finally began working on it in 2022. A high-octane, action-packed trailer was launched in early November, just a few weeks before the release on the 30th of the same month. In a pre-screening interview, Singh described his latest action drama in a rather descriptive manner. “Shehar Lakhot is a multilayered and nuanced noir crime drama that will take viewers through a labyrinth of human complexities, secrets, twists and betrayal,” he expressed.

He went on to add that “The series is a labour of love, told through the kaleidoscopic lens of the interesting characters that reside in the city of Lakhot and brought alive by the fantastic performances of the cast, who have embraced the eccentricities and added their own unique flair to it.” The director has ensembled a wide cast list to add a humane and diverse touch to his labyrinth of emotions. The byproduct seems to be a twisted game of power struggle, deceit and treachery.

Despite having such high hopes and expectations from the series, Singh doesn’t seem to have plans for a sequel. He has tied all loose ends, leaving no cliffhangers to spur the audience’s excitement. However, this is not to say that the sequel isn’t happening. The creators could easily follow up with a fresh cast, but it seems highly unlikely. Though the chances are slim, Prime Video might still commission a sequel. If Singh puts his mind to it, Shehar Lakhot Season 2 could be released in late 2024 or early 2025.

Shehar Lakhot Series Overview

As the trailer hinted, Shehar Lakhot is a gruesome tale of unveiling one’s dark feathers and exposing him to a game of blackmail and blood. It follows Dev, a man tormented by a sinister past and of course, companions. He is thrust reluctantly into his hometown, a fictional Lakhot in Rajasthan, India, where heart-wrenching memories await him. Meanwhile, SI Pallawi Raj (Kubbra Sait), has discovered an unidentified corpse, with a Russian phrase scribbled on her wrist that read “toska” which roughly translates to melancholy. Pallawi is drawn to the tattoo, and begins investigating her death, despite the pressure mounting above her head.

As circumstances intensify and politicians become suspects, Pallawi resorts to seeking Dev’s help. As the latter gets himself tangled in the investigation, the layers of his past start to unfurl. The constant push and pull between the past and present narrates Dev’s history with Lakhot and his family’s abhorrence towards him. He was accused of his brother, Jay’s murder, and had to endure whiplash from his entire family. As it turns out, Dev was a ploy in Jay’s grand scheme and he has been betrayed drastically. However, the series doesn’t end here. Instead, it takes a nosedive into the political tapestry and exposes the grim secrets of everyone involved, including the Tomar family.
