Prajakta Koli and Rohit Saraf’s Mismatched Season 3 Release Date Becomes Highly Anticipated!

With the streaming giant banking heavily on Indian series that challenge the orthodox norms, several coming-of-age series have emerged. The ace Indian YouTuber and social media sensation, Prajakta Kohli’s rom-com Mismatched remains one of the most anticipated ones. A note apart from  Maitreyi Ramakrishnan’s Never Have I Ever, Mismatched is subsequently a defiant tale. It deftly examines the ongoing struggle among the Indian young girls and women to establish their own presence. The drama highlights the pain points of subservience, forced arranged marriages and parental pressure that threatens to ruin the dreams of an adolescent. Though sometimes, it wanders far away from its thematic essence, the series has succeeded in amassing a wide audience.

Instead of going all guns blazing on its central story arc, the directors, Akarsh Khurana and Nipun Dharmadhikaari, have tied it with romantic and comedy moments. Their masterpiece, Mismatched is currently trending again after the lead actors, Kohli and Rohit Saraf confirmed a third iteration. But is Mismatched Season 3 release date out? Here is the answer!

Mismatched Season 3 Release Date

Mismatched Season 3 Release Date

Deriving inspiration from Sandhya Menon’s When Dimple Met Rishi, the creator Gazal Dhaliwali began scripting the series in early 2018. However, due to the pandemic, the filming for the then-untitled series was halted for over a year. Eventually, the creators launched Mismatched in association with Netflix, on 20 November 2020. Though the six-part drama didn’t impress the critics, it absolutely slayed the fans, who demanded a sequel incessantly. The creators were initially sceptical regarding the second outing but eventually gave in to the demands.

Mismatched Season 2 was then released on 14 October 2022, two years later after its debut season. Now, a year later, Saraf took it to Instagram, to announce his third inning with Prajakta. In the caption of what can only be described as a “picture-perfect” portrait of him and Kohli, Rohit mentioned that, “We weren’t ready to say goodbye yet, so we’re coming back for you! #MismatchedS03.” Moreover, the Jug Jug Jeeyo actress has also confirmed that the third iteration is currently under production.

The screenplay writer, Dhaliwali is currently helming the script for what is hyped to be a more mature and probably less cliched season. With the current status of the series, the Mismatched Season 3 can fall under Netflix’s November 2025 collection. However, the creators have yet to share anything else about the upcoming series and the fate of the mismatched couple.

Mismatched doesn’t Match with its Inspiration

Mismatched goes a mile beyond its source material and so does the Ek Ladki ko Dekha toh Aisa Laga writer. Dhaliwal altered the retrospect of the book, which is set in the United States and follows an Indo-American couple. The director, Khurana, approved of this recalibration to add a unique Indian touch to their project. He mentioned, “Even though this was essentially a young adult romance, there was a maturity in the way it was depicted. Dhaliwal, who counts Kuch Kuch Hota Hai as one of her guilty pleasures, was similarly drawn in by the simplicity of the high-school romance at the heart of the book, a contrast to the large-scale candyfloss high school universe depicted in Hindi films.”

Gunjan, when sharing her opinion regarding this altercation in the script, justified her script claiming that it adhered to the Indian traditions. “The story is about a setup which has gone horribly wrong. To make that happen, it was important to change the family dynamics. Akarsh and I felt very strongly about the fact that it wouldn’t have been believable for Indian viewers if Rishi’s parents were behind him to start looking out for girls when he’s all of 18 so that he can get married in two years,” she accepted in the interview.

The director further added, “So I introduced a grandmother in the mix (her character is not featured in the book), effectively using the older generation’s adherence to tradition as justification for the arranged marriage setup. I also played around with Rishi’s dynamics with his parents as well: In the book, Rishi’s parents, who belong to a typical Gujarati family, are still together and Rishi is built to be more obedient than hopeless romantic.” The creators even changed the location of Menon’s original story and shot the series entirely in Jaipur.

The Mismatched Cast on the Concept of the Series

Saraf, who’s renowned for his supporting role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Dear Zindagi, didn’t shy away from expressing his opinion regarding the Mismatched series either. “The biggest selling point for him about the show was the ’romance’ it has. The love, ambition, navigating through the college years of one’s life and a kind of acceptance toward all that going on in the life was something I found very relatable,” he stated with a hint of nostalgia.

As the actress affirmed, she would have entirely missed out on the series if her flight to Tokyo wouldn’t have been delayed. With “no makeup [and] dishevelled hair”, Prajakta cleared the interview and signed up to play Dimple, with whom she related on a deeper level. Kohli embraced her character with sheer zest, describing Dimple as a tough nut. “She’s very driven to achieve her goal; if she doesn’t, her parents will get her married! Isn’t that relatable to so many girls–and boys–across the country? I have so many cousins in my family who are dealing with this dilemma. That’s why Dimple is so tough to crack; she doesn’t let her guard down at all.”

Regarding Mismatched Season 3, Prajakta expressed her enthusiasm and eagerness in yet another interview. “I am thrilled that we will be working on the third season and I can’t wait to meet the crew who are now actually my good friends. Even though all of us live far from each other when we are on set we film the whole day and then spend the evening together as friends. It’s honestly amazing and that reflects on screen too,” the YouTuber divulged.

Mismatched Overview

In all of its bizarre glory, Mismatched is a slice-of-life drama centred around two teenagers, Dimple Ahuja (Prajakta) and Rishi Singh Shekhawat (Rahul). A hopeless romantic at heart, the latter grew up with his grandparents, witnessing their love bloom every day. When he comes across Dimple’s picture on a matrimonial website, he immediately senses a deeper connection with her. Considering it as a sign of fate, Rishi enrols himself into a coding boot camp alongside Dimple.

On the contrary, Ahuja is a cynical and truly Indian girl, who has the sword of marriage looming over her head. She aspires to develop “the next big app” and has joined the summer course in Jaipur to take a step closer to her dream. With both of their personalities, career goals and mindsets clashing against each other, Mismatched dances along the familiar “will they or won’t they” trope.

What will the Mismatched Season 3 be About?

The debut season left its viewers with more than a dozen loose ends, naturally hinting at a follow-up sequel. By the end of Season 1, Mismatched has paired Dimple with Harsh Agarwal (Vihaan Samat) for the coding project. Professor Siddharth Sinha (Rannvijay Singha) and the oldest student Zeenat Karim (Vidya Malvade) have developed a sort of relationship. Rishi and his relationship with his best friend, Namrata Bidasaria (Devyani Shorey) are in shambles due to a baseless jealousy fit. He is still miles apart from wooing his “future wife”. On the other hand, Dimple’s best friend, Celina Matthews (Muskkaan Jaferi) has developed a crush on Namrata.

The sequel spent the better half of its eight episodes solving these dilemmas. As if it weren’t enough, the series introduces another quandary by pulling apart Rishi and Dimple. The former abandons his love interest after chasing her for months, finally realizing that she might never prioritize him more than her career. Meanwhile, Dimple pulls off a damsel in distress story arc and is too proud to admit her blossoming feelings towards Rishi.

The creators have almost recalibrated the entire storyline of the Netflix drama. Due to the same, the plot for Mismatched Season 3 cannot be predicted in its entirety. However, it is expected that the third outing would expand its viewpoint and portray a “happily ever after” for Rishi and Dimple. The same is anticipated for the remaining couples, including Namrata and Celina and Zeenat and Siddharth.
