Doctor Cha Episode 5 Recap And Ending Explained: Jung-Sook’s Kindness Pays Off In A Way No One Expected It To!

Another instalment of this weekly K-drama dropped on Netflix. Doctor Cha, created by Kim Dae-Jin and Kim Jung-Woo, is a comfort watch. It is a medical soap opera-style drama that focuses on a housewife-turned-doctor, Cha Jung-Sook. It is her journey of stepping out of the confines of her home and proving to the world that age is just a number. So far, her endeavour has been on the right track. She has been successfully working as a first-year resident at Gusan University Hospital. It is the same hospital her son, Jung-Min and husband, In-Ho work.

In the previous episode, Doctor Cha climaxed at an intriguing cliffhanger. Doctor Cha Episode 5 has been expected to highlight whether Jung-Sook survives the shock, the real-life 100-volt shock and the metaphorical shock, too. Well, let us find out what happened in Doctor Cha Episode 5!

Doctor Cha Episode 5 Recap

When Jung-Sook asked her husband, Seo In-Ho, about the receipt of the bracelet she found in his trousers, In-Ho cleverly turned the situation in his favour. He easily claimed that it was a surprise gift for Jung-Sook. Being the naive, over-optimistic person she is, Jung-Sook eats up the lies easily.

Back at the hospital, when Chairman Oh stumbles down, Jung-Sook is petrified and begins CPR immediately. Later, she is joined by her senior, Jeon So-Ra, who also happens to be Jung-Min’s girlfriend. When Jung-Sook watches In-Ho and Seung-Hee interact with each other with a questionable level of familiarity, Jung-Sook is shock-struck. But when her eyes fall onto Seung-Hee’s wrist and she discovers the same bracelet In-Ho supposedly brought for her, Jung-Sook is literally shock-struck.

For the first time in the 5 episodes I have watched, In-Ho doesn’t spark anger or an eye-roll from me. He is quite endearing as he runs over to his wife, who lies unconscious on the floor, without caring about the norms. Of course, nothing happens to the protagonist just like nothing happens in the series–not in this context anyway. After being lectured by her son, Jung-Min, who is quite disturbed by her stunt in an endearing manner, Jung-Sook goes on with her routine.

Jung-Sook Is Tortured By Seung-Hee

Doctor Cha Episode 5 Recap And Ending Explained

When she comes across Seung-Hee and watches the bracelet be replaced by a watch, Jung-Sook believes that it was a hallucination. Meanwhile, Jung-Sook and Seung-Hee’s daughters, who happen to be best friends, are gearing up for college. Both of them aspire to get enrolled in an arts college and demand their mother’s attention.

With Seung-Hee’s daughter, Eun-Seo, giving her a hard time, Seung-Hee is frustrated and she takes it on Jung-Sook obviously. She keeps her awake for hours. Sung-Hee gives Jung-Sook odd jobs like sorting through files just to make herself feel better. Her jealousy has started to weigh down on her relationship with her daughter and In-Ho as well.

Speaking of jealousy, Jung-Min’s girlfriend is jealous of Jung-Sook as well after Chairman Oh agrees to go through surgery–something he has been denying for months. Ah, by the way, Chairman Oh didn’t die and has now come back from the deathbed for good. Also, In-Ho and Doctor Roy Kim are not about to declare undying devotion to each other anytime soon either. They bicker like kids in front of the entire hospital with In-Ho sounding specifically bitter.

Jung-Sook Is Quitting The Job

All of us, Doctor Cha fans, know how tough Jung-Sook’s journey has been so far. She has fought against the cliche age difference accusations, has battled with a life-threatening disease and has stood up against the familial pressures to rise back. It hasn’t been an easy ride for Jung-Sook. This episode treats us to a dejected Jung-Sook, the one we have came across too many times–and I have not enjoyed it. Jung-Sook is a warrior and I–including millions of fans–relish watching her stand up for herself against all odds.

This time, Jung-Sook is weighed down by expectations and is ready to quit her residency. It is a simulated effect of several things; I-Rang’s college admission, her inexperience and a rather shocking accident. The other patient of Jung-Sook, the woman who is accused of being a murderer, escapes the hospital while being under Jung-Sook’s supervision. The collective impact of these issues has made Jung-Sook decide to quit the job.

Doctor Cha Episode 5 Ending Explained: Jung-Sook Is Surprised But The Entire Gusan University Hospital Is Shocked

Doctor Cha Episode 5 Recap And Ending Explained

While his kids and employees were ready to bid the cranky Chairman Oh farewell, it was only Jung-Sook who didn’t give up. She tried her best to revive him and eventually, she succeeded–of course with the help of So-Ra. Moreover, Jung-Sook was ten times more ecstatic than his kids when his surgery went well. Now that she is quitting the hospital, Chairman Oh isn’t ready to let her go.

In an interview, in front of several journalists and Gusan University Hospital’s doctors, Chairman Oh announces that he would pull all the funds if Jung-Sook quits. Moreover, he would back up any research Jung-Sook might want to do and will keep checking on her. Indeed, kindness pays off in unexpected ways. Now, Jung-Sook, will continue being a fighter and balance work life efficiently–well, as efficiently as Jung-Sook can manage.
