It is named after the town of Roswell, New Mexico. The show is the second TV adaptation of Melinda Metz’s Roswell High books. The CW renewed the show for a third season in January 2020, with the first episode airing on July 26, 2021. The sitcom was renewed for a fourth season in February 2021, just ahead of its third season launch. The fourth season will be the final one, it was revealed in May 2022.

Season 3 ended on a high note, with no one going missing. Heather Hemmens, St. John, Tyler Blackburn, Lily Cowles, Michael Vlamis, Jeanine Marie Mason, Trevor, Nathan Parsons, Michael Trevino, and Karan Oberoi are set to appear in the following season.
