Vigil is a British television police procedural drama series created by Tom Edge for ITV Studios and produced by World Production. In August 2021, BBC One broadcasted the six-part series. Suranne Jones, Paterson Joseph, Rose Leslie, and Martin Compston, Shaun Evans, are among the cast members. The series is set in Scotland, and most of the action takes place on a fictional Royal Navy attack submarine.
In a 2021 interview, television producer George Aza-Selinger approached writer Edge about developing a submarine concept for television. It was based on the Continuous At-Sea Deterrent (CASD) of the United Kingdom and the lives of its submarine crews. The show was mostly filmed and set in Scotland. Tom Sayer, the production designer, developed extensive studio sets to simulate the submarine’s interior.
As of now, the show has released a total of 6 episodes in its first season and each episode is 40 to 45 minutes long, released on 29th August 2021.
Vigil Season 2 Release Date
In March 2022, the second season of the show was officially confirmed by the show creators. The production house and broadcasting distributors confirmed the news by tweeting a tweet in March 2022.
The first season of the show performed very well, it is not that much surprising that they renewed the show for another season. Rumors are that the creators of the show are planning to make not just 2 seasons but they have some plans for 3rd and 4th seasons as well. However, there is no official update came out regarding that news. But sometimes when things are working well for you, you want to make more of it and Vigil television show is just like that. As there is no official update for seasons 3 and 4 but 2nd season is confirmed and going to happen soon.
However, the release date for the second season is not out yet, we are expecting it to release by the end of the year or in early 2023. These dates are just assumptions that an official release is yet to come. Vigil Season 2 Story
A fatality onboard HMS Vigil, a nuke Vanguard-class nuclear missile submarine, is investigated by Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva of the Scottish Police Service, shortly after the inexplicable vanishing of a Scottish fishing boat. Her investigations, as well as those of her colleagues on the ground, pit the police against the Royal Navy and MI5, the British Security Service.
The story is reminiscent of the Royal Navy submarine HMS Vigilant’s exploits. The sinking of the FV Antares by Royal Fleet nuclear-powered submarine HMS Poignant in the Firth of Clyde in 1990 is identical to the loss of the fictional trawler Mhairi Finnea in the series. Families of Antares crew members voiced displeasure with scenes depicting the Mhairi Finnea’s sinking; nevertheless, the BBC disputed that the program was influenced by or based on a focus on a real occurrence.

Shaw persuades Cruden to believe the official story that a Russian submarine is to blame for the sinking of the fishing boat.
