Extraction 2: Who Is The Informant? Why Did He Approach Tyler?

After an excruciatingly long wait, the Chris Hemsworth starrer has finally arrived at its home channel, Netflix. With 2023 brimming with commendable action films and series lined up, Sam Hargrave’s Extraction 2 has been one highly anticipated dose of thrill and eye-popping stunts. The stunt artist turned director, Hargrave, has instilled his decades of experience and passion into his debut film and it is every bit of opulence we have been expecting from it.

When the world had to undergo lockdown in 2020, Extraction made its debut on Netflix. Quarantined away from the world, burdened by boredom, Netflix and other streaming platforms garnered notoriety. This popularity was extended to Extraction, too, and it quickly became a blockbuster film. Now, 3 years later, Hemsworth is back again as Tyler Rake in Extraction 2 and is approached by a rather enigmatic man. Who is he? And why did he approach Tyler? Answers lie below!

Extraction 2: Who Is The Informant?

In the debut film, the magnificent mercenary, Tyler Rake, was assigned the task of retrieving the son of an Indian drug lord. As Tyler carried on with the mission, the strings of his past memories complicated his feelings. Though Rake managed to accomplish his task in the end, he fell off the cliff and ever since has been isolated from the eyes of the world. Tyler is a killer-for-hire, a hot-tempered mercenary who is driven by his devastating past. No matter how many years pass, the death of his son is a weight on his shoulder he cannot shake off. So, Tyler keeps going, numbing himself as much as he could.

After Tyler’s mates, Yaz Kahn (Adam Bessa) and Nik Kahn (Golshifteh Farahani) fetch him from the bridge, they tend to his injuries and help him heal. Nik’s concern for Tyler dominates the first few minutes of Extraction 2 as she transports him to snow-daubed Australian mountains away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Still injured, Tyler bids Yaz and Nik goodbye and attempts to settle in the cottage.

Hemsworth’s clouded vision steals the moment as he drowns in his past memories and walks down the lane of guilt. It’s only a few minutes of peace for Rake before he has a surprise guest (Idris Elba) and mind you, he isn’t welcomed by our assassin.

Why Did He Approach Tyler?

Extraction 2: Who Is The Informant?

Be it Hollywood’s touch on multilayered gun-for-hire Derek Kolstad’s John Wick, the Bollywood assassin thriller, Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bloody Daddy or now Hargrave’s Extraction, our protagonists are driven by guilt and bloodlust–a hazy combination. It is the inner beast in them that torpids their conscience and throws them on the path of utmost destruction. Rake, too, has locked away his sense of morality after the death of his son. Ever since he hasn’t been able to shake off the whispers of his conscience that weighs him down.

As Tyler stares at the unknown man in his habitat, clad in a navy blue suit, he knows this man is bad news. The informant isn’t enthusiastic to watch Tyler supporting himself on a stick, bearing the expression of a troubled man. He believes his boss who assigned him the responsibility to get Rake on the mission has overestimated Rake. However, Tyler wastes not even a second proving this mysterious man wrong with the help of his Glock. Now convinced of Tyler’s unabashed approach towards violence, the informant (whose name we do not discover till the end but is speculated to be Alcott) reveals the purpose of his surprise visit.

How Is Mia Connected To The Informant?

Locked away in Ikachiri Prison of Georgia resides Tyler’s sister-in-law, Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili), her husband, Davit Radiani and two kids. As it turns out, Davit is the brother of the man who literally rules the nation, Zurab (Tornike Gogrichiani). If it weren’t for America pressurizing Bangladesh into punishing Davit who brutally murdered one of the American officers, Davit would have never been arrested. Now, Zurab is out to fetch his brother from prison as if Davit is being punished for his crimes. Davit has moved in his entire family into the prison cell, manipulating Ketevan into believing that there is an unknown enemy out for them.

With little to no option left, Ketevan’s sister and Tyler’s ex-wife, Mia (Olga Kurylenko), approach the informant and indirectly Tyler. Upon hearing of his new mission, a ray of hope shines bright in Tyler’s life. He hasn’t been there for his wife when she needed him the most. Now that Tyler has been bestowed an opportunity to restitute, it seems obnoxious to even think that the mercenary would let an opportunity slip by his fingers.

So, Tyler wraps in his black commando suit, sheds the cast from his fractured hand, foregoes the walking stick and picks up his gun, ready for the ultimate battle!
