The life story of a mercenary through the prism of mission and melancholy, Extraction has quickly become a popular name in the action thriller genre. The film, manifested by the infamous stuntman-turned-director, Sam Hargrave, is the epitome of an emotion-fueled action saga. Starring the infamous Chris Hemsworth in the leading role of the fearless mercenary, Tyler Rake, Extraction takes a closer look at the desolate condition of the protagonist as he takes on dangerous missions. The debut film introduced us to Hargrave’s explosive universe and the sequel just elevates the sumptuousness further.
With Hemsworth serving as both protagonist and producer, Extraction is soon becoming a popular franchise. Now that the sequel is premiering on Netflix, the questions left by this 2-hour-long film are garnering prominence. More specifically, the fate of the antagonist, Zurab (Tornike Gogrichiani) and his niece, Sandro (Andro Jafaridze) have become a hot topic.
Extraction 2: Is Zurab Dead?
The quick answer is yes, Zurab eventually dies at the end of Extraction 2.
Cue two hours ago, after the sudden unexpected visit by the informant, Tyler is burning with the need to accomplish his mission and atone for his sins. In order to fetch Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili), her son, Sandro and her little daughter, Tyler has to sneak into the Ikachiri Prison of Georgia. How would it be possible without his teammates Yaz Kahn (Adam Bessa) and Nik Kahn (Golshifteh Farahani)? So, Tyler gives a quick call to Nik and lets her in on his plan. It is a mission that could blow up in his face, a risk no one else would have taken. Going against the gangster and drug lord, Zurab is a feat no other assassin would have entertained.
But it is the Tyler Rake, a man who doesn’t fear death, a mercenary who doesn’t shy away from risks.
Armed with huge guns and a winning spirit, Tyler, Nik and Yaz embark on a journey to retrieve Ketevan and her children. After the 20-minute-long explosive action sequence, Tyler is finally able to retrieve his sister-in-law. In the process, he makes an enemy out of the Radiani brothers and Sandro, too.

Does Tyler Kill Davit?
As if barging into the prison and raising havoc wasn’t enough, Tyler ends up killing Davit in the process, too.
Zurab and Davit don’t only hold money and power, they also possess means to buy out people and use them for their benefit. Now, these people help Davit shield him away from Tyler. As he rescues Ketevan, Sandro turns against his mother, who orchestrated this rescue mission. But they have no time to deal with personal grudges as Tyler and his team weave them past their enemies.
Nik and Yaz serve as allies not only during the mission but in the aftermath of it, too. After killing Davit, Tyler manages to get Ketevan to a safe place but is unsuccessful in fetching Sandro, who believes his mother did injustice to his father. Now standing at the threshold of his uncle’s doorstep, Sandro has no idea what kind of mess he is getting himself into.
How Does Tyler Save Sandro?
It was Sandro who informed his uncle, Zurab about their location and invited trouble for his mother and little sister who has been injured. Tyler, Nik and Yaz don’t hold back and shield Ketevan and her daughter. However, they lose Sandro to Zurab who steals his nephew from Tyler, Nik and Yaz.
Ketevan still holds a grudge against Tyler because of the ordeal with him and her sister, Mia. Yet, she can’t help her gratitude which is still tarnished by the loss of Sandro. Rake understands the grave situation Sandro is in who is driven by emotions and loyalty towards his father but the options in front of him are limited.
Where Is Sandro Now?
It seems like the sadistic drug lord has other plans for Tyler instead of letting him sear with frustration and guilt. Zurab wants to dish out vengeance and he doesn’t believe that revenge is a dish best served cold. He wants to burn Tyler’s tongue and life and for that, he has decided to use Sandro as a pawn. Just like the emotion-driven teenager Sandro is, he doesn’t understand the severity of his situation until Tyler drops in to rescue him and he has been handed a gun.
Nik’s loyalty towards Tyler isn’t just baffling but compelling, too. She follows him to the lion’s den, risking her life and making what happens to be the worst mistake of her life. Though Sandro doesn’t pull off the trigger, Zurab doesn’t hesitate to use him as a bulwark. Eventually, after another 10 minutes of crumbling bones, bleeding noses and swollen eyes, Tyler does make it out alive along with Sandro. The three of them are alive and while Sandro is completely alright and at home, it seems like Nik and Tyler aren’t.
