Was Queen Cleopatra Buried Along With Mark Antony?

All four episodes of the highly controversial Netflix docu-series, Queen Cleopatra are now streaming on the OTT platform. We still don’t know about Cleopatra’s true origin. The recently launched Netflix documentary strongly opines on the thought that Cleopatra was an African Queen, not a European! This has already created a lot of havoc out there and let’s not fire any further rumors on the same. Queen Cleopatra’s rule was shaken apart by the great Octavian army. He was the only man who wasn’t influenced by Cleopatra’s ideas and strongly saw her as a major threat to Rome. Moreover, it was very important for Octavian to take direct control of Egypt and its immense wealth. This was the only way he can satisfy his people and establish strong footings within the Senate! As Queen Cleopatra’s reign came to an end, Octavian came into power.

The Netflix documentary has indeed allowed us to question many of the scenes shown in the series. Among the most prominent happens to be the very last note written by Queen Cleopatra. As the letter reached Octavian, he clearly understood Cleopatra’s motive. There was no way, she would have been able to live after being humiliated by Octavian! She knew it was the very end of her rule and her father’s great Ptolemaic dynasty. Moreover, bad days were approaching for the Egyptians. Her heart was ripped apart when she knew that Octavian has managed to capture her children. But despite everything, she will always be remembered as the most courageous female ruler of Egypt!

Was Queen Cleopatra Buried Along With Mark Antony?

This remains a mystery to the whole world, we yet don’t know anything about their tombs. Were there tombs ever been created? Were the love birds buried together? These are few of the interesting questions surrounding the death of Queen Cleopatra and General Mark Antony. Shockingly enough many think that they were cremated together, not buried. In the very last letter which she wrote to Octavian, Cleopatra penned her last few wishes. She wanted her son, Caesarion to be the ruler of Egypt and demanded him to free his other two kids as well. Lastly, she wanted to be buried along with her beloved, Mark Antony.

Just like Cleopatra, Mark too committed suicide. He genuinely loved Cleopatra with all he had and was determined to stay with her till his last breath. And, he did exactly what he once promised to Cleopatra. To gain Octavian’s loyalty, Mark agreed to marry Octavia. But at the end of the day, he had to return to his twins. When Mark was struggling to guide his army, Egypt was flooding with wealth. This was the exact moment when Mark realized that to gain full control over Rome, he has to take the help of Cleopatra. He was the only man who was brave enough to leave Octavia and thus got married to Cleopatra. They became a symbol of a new beginning, which could have truly reunited Rome and Egypt.

Both were very strong together, but they also had some weak strategies! It all starts in the battle of Actium. As Cleopatra learns Antony is losing the battle against Octavian, she decides to take her troop back to her homeland. Yes, at a point she genuinely loved him, but nothing could have ever been compared to her loyalty to Egypt. That was her homeland and she has to do something to guard the palace of Alexandria. But again, we all saw how the two ended up standing for one another. They could have changed the history of Rome if they had more forces and alliances. Coming back to the main question of the day, their tombs were never really discovered by any and this explains why the answer will continue to be a mystery to us.
