Dead Ringers Season 1 Review & Ending Explained - A Modern Take On The 1988 Movie

Featuring the very renowned and talented Rachel Weisz, the very first season of this crazy horror mini-series surely left all of us speechless. We weren’t expecting to see such a complicated tale of love, hatred, and sisterhood. And before we pen the reviews on the same, let’s take a moment to applaud Rachel Weisz, it would be quite fair to say that she nailed the role of the Mantle sisters. The short drama tries to follow the footsteps of the age-old movie of the same name! After all, when talking about the Prime Video series, how can we forget about the original movie, Dead Ringers?

The very first adaptation of this tale came as a movie in 1988. Back then as well, the movie performed extremely well at the box office and this time too, we have pretty high hopes for the newly launched drama series. Coming back to the reviews, we do feel that the tale has been stretched a bit. The swapping between the sisters can be highly confusing for many. But we also cannot overlook the fact that the plot of the series truly impressed us a lot.

Being identical twins can be a bit difficult sometimes, but what if you turn this into a major advantage? This brings us to the Mantle sisters, Beverly and Elliot, the chemistry between these two surely mesmerized us! But what’s worth noticing is, Elliot’s intense love and affection for Beverly. She will do everything possible to make her happy and content, after all, she is her “Baby Sister”! Both might look alike, but they are highly different from one another and this is what made us glued to Dead Ringers Season 1.

Considering all the plot twists, we do feel that Season 1 deserves a solid 7 from us! Yes, the series heavily revolves around extremely complicated science experiments and birthing technologies which might look highly interesting at first glance, but again we do feel the creators exaggerated the story a bit. It seems like the complications have stretched it all to a large extent.

Is Beverly Mantle Dead?

Dead Ringers Season 1 Review & Ending Explained - A Modern Take On The 1988 Movie

Someone died at the end of Season 1, but what’s worth stressing is, who died? By the end of Episode 6, Beverly realized that she had made the wrong choice, she shouldn’t have betrayed her sister. Elliot has always been Beverly’s backbone, she did everything possible to make her dream come true! In fact, by the end of Season 1, we also saw that Elliot has been successful in her very last experiment, she has grown the twins in the test tubes, and she has made it possible! This proved that despite being abandoned by Beverly, she didn’t try to harm or jeopardize her dream or reputation!

Well, let us rewind the story a bit and go back to the Award ceremony. When Beverly was handed over the Karlovich Award, she clearly made a statement out loud proving that her identical twin has been involved in illegal issues! Beverly states that Elliot has been highly abusive and destructive. She also pinpoints that Elliot was the one who has endangered the lives of many and thus Beverly decides to cut her name out of the Mantle Parker Birthing Center!

But as soon as she steps down from the stage, Tom confronts Beverly! He reminds her of all the wrong things she has done against Elliot. She may deny it as much as possible, but at the end of the day, her dream would have never come true without the help of Elliot. All those brilliant lab experiments which Elliot performed truly worked wonders for their very own private birthing center. But we all know how drastically time changed, someone preferred to choose success over sisterhood.

Elliot and Beverly did reunite, we saw them together and Beverly finally told Elliot that she felt awful without her! But we all know what happened at the end, we saw that Beverly decided to die! The very last swap took place where the sisters exchanged their positions. Elliot went out with the twins in her arms, while Beverly was covered in blood and took her very last breath at the experiment table. It was indeed the most heartbreaking scene of the whole show.
