A historical drama series that left all of us in shock! We are still processing the fact that the common man of Norway was brutally killed by the Axis forces! It was indeed a very insightful drama series. The way Gunnar Vikene tried to depict the hardships of the frontline warriors truly impressed us a lot.
We couldn’t have asked for a better series than this! World War II is still seen among the deadliest battles out there! Those erroneous air strikes, war cries, warships, hunger battles, dead bodies, it all remains locked within those 7 years of hardship! This series takes us back to the year 1939!
We see a man named Freddy looking for a decent job and thus comes his childhood best friend, Sigbjørn! Both decide to sail the warship and thus start their trip to the Atlantic Ocean! We have already penned the review for War Sailor and here are some interesting questions related to the show!
How Did Cecelia And Her Children Survive The Air Strike?
They still remember the dates! It was October 1944 when the air strike happened in Bergen! From schools to houses, everything was blasted down, it was indeed a horrific moment for them, it couldn’t get any worse than this! Since the show is based on true facts, reports confirmed that the school blasting was also true to its every word. That incident happened for real. Moreover, coming back to the question of the day, not only Freddy, but the audience as well assumed that Cecelia and the children were washed down to death. But then comes the major twist in the tale, they were found alive!
Olav was growing up, Maggie and William were teenagers and Cecelia now feeds them all. She has been doing the same for 7 years now! They luckily managed to escape the bomb blast. Just a day before the British took charge over Bergen, they were out of the house. Cecelia also tried to warn Clausen, but destiny had different plans for him. Unfortunately, he couldn’t survive the attacks.
One of their close relatives namely Uncle Torstein passed away in 1944 and luckily the Garnes family found the shelter they were looking for. In 1947, Cecelia along with her three children was found in Askøy and there rings the doorbell! Cecelia’s long-lost friend and her husband’s sole companion, Sigbjørn, stands in front of her new house!

Did Cecelia Had An Extramarital Affair With Sigbjørn?
We weren’t expecting to see such a drastic twist in the story. Sigbjørn was Freddy’s long-time best friend, he genuinely did everything to help Freddy, and he knew him better than anyone else. Moreover, for so many years, Cecelia was living a hard life, she never thought of any other man but her husband, Freddy.
She and her three children were curiously eyeing for some relief news. Freddy promised that he will come back to his family, he promised a lifetime to Cecelia! The wait was supposed to be only for 18 months, not 7 prolonged years and that’s what bittered their marriage.
When Sigbjørn reached out to the Garnes family, Cecelia was lonely and heartbroken. She was already living with the thought that Alfred was dead and even upon learning that he was alive, she convinced herself that Alfred would never return home.
This is what triggered her! Again, how could we overlook the fact that the kids, especially Olav and William, were very much fond of Sigbjørn’s company? He was indeed a good man and he had genuine love and affection for Cecelia. But the ultimate nail in their love story was the return of Alfred Garnes.
By the end of episode 3, it was quite clear that Freddy had eventually got hints of their extra-marital affair! After all, in one way, Cecelia herself confessed the truth to him. Not to forget, Sigbjørn never really appeared again in Cecelia’s life, this shows that he truly cared for Freddy’s well being. Given the fact that Sigbjørn was always a true friend to Freddy, we were really moved by the fact that he sacrificed his love for Freddy. He decides to give up on Cecelia and this broke our hearts as well.
