The Lincoln Lawyer is a new American legal drama series conceived for television by David E. Kelley and produced by Ted Humphrey, based on Michael Connelly’s 2008 novel The Brass Verdict. Mickey Haller, a defense attorney in Los Angeles who operates out of a chauffeur-driven Lincoln Town Car instead of an office, is played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.
David E. Kelley created a spec script for an Epix by A+E Studios television series in 2018. He chose to work on a separate project with A+E after the screenplay failed to move forward, eventually adopting The Lincoln Lawyer after discussing his interest in working on legal dramas. CBS committed to a full-scale production commitment for the project in June 2019.
Ted Humphrey took over as showrunner in February 2020, and Kiele Sanchez guest-starred as Lorna, followed by Angus Sampson and Jazz Raycole as Cisco and Izzy, respectively, a few weeks later. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States, it was rumored in May 2020 that the show would not be renewed at CBS.
Two screenplays for the show had been written, with two more in production, and Logan Marshall-Green was in talks to play as lead character Mickey Haller at the forefront of this change, which CBS Television President Kelly Kahl described as a “difficult call.” The series was picked up by Netflix on January 11, 2021, with ten-episode order, down from the previous 13-episode plan, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo was cast as Haller.

The Brass Verdict Story
Attorney Mickey Haller has spent a year recovering from his wounds and subsequent addiction to painkillers since the events of the previous novel. When an old friend, defence attorney Jerry Vincent, is murdered, he is called back to the profession of law. Haller takes on Vincent’s caseload, which involves Walter Elliott’s high-profile trial for the murders of his wife Mitzi and her German boyfriend. Haller secures this “franchise” case by telling the entrepreneur that he will not seek a delay of the trial, which is scheduled to begin in nine days.
Meanwhile, Vincent’s murder is being investigated by maverick LAPD detective Harry Bosch, who has appeared in several previous Connelly novels.
Bosch tries to persuade the reluctant lawyer to participate in the continuing murder investigation, citing the possibility that Vincent’s killer could target Haller next. In the meantime, Haller brushes off the rust and any remaining misgivings as he prepared for the double-murder case.
One of the cases Haller works on is that of Patrick, a former surfing champion who, following a surfing accident, became addicted to pills and stole a piece of diamond jewellery from a friend’s house.
Because of his history of substance abuse, Haller feels bad for Patrick and hires him to drive his Lincoln. By relying on an intuition that the stolen jewels were not genuine, he can clear Patrick of the charges levelled against him.
