In order to know about the Court Case, you will first have to know about the story of the film. The film is a remake of the Bengali film Posto. The film revolves around the life of 7-year-old Yaman Shastry. Yaman is a young child as his age already suggests. He needs the care of his parents but his parents are unavailable. Their shoes are filled by Yaman’s grandparents.
Manohar and Urmila Shastry are the grandparents of young Yaman. While his parents Malhar and Mallika are busy with their work lives in Mumbai, Manohar and Urmila take care of Yaman. Yaman misses his parents but he never expresses it. His grandparents try to give him everything that he deserves.
One fine day, Malhar and Mallika decide that they have been separated from their only son for a long time now. They need to reunite with their son. As a result, they decide to take their son with them and shift to the United States. However, things do not go as planned. Manohar does not approve of their decision. He wants Yaman to stay with them and strongly believes that his son and daughter-in-law are incapable of taking care of his grandson.
Consequently, the Court witnesses a case where the Shastrys fight for the custody of the child. This Court Case is based on a real-life incident that occurred in the Calcutta High Court in 2007. Therefore, we can conclude that Shastry Viruddh Shastry is based on an actual court case.
