Moriarty the Patriot Season 3 Release Date Still Remains A Hyped-Up Question!

Despite being an intriguing twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes mystery, Moriarty the Patriot trudges along a parallel realm. It is centred around Holmes’ arch-nemesis and delivers a profound twist on the character and the central theme. It is what the quintessential British tales are made up of–an iconic chase between the antagonist and the protagonist. However, the Kazuya Nomura directorial anime ventures further into this thrilling plot and questions the stance of the decades-old paradigmatic enigma, William James Moriarty. Essentially, William was Sherlock’s enemy, renowned for his devilish tricks and the ability to cover his tracks so well, that no sheriff has been able to catch him. But the anime portrays him as an anti-hero, who camouflages his intentions and motive behind a trail of secrets and a pool of blood.

Moriarty the Patriot Season 3 Release Date

Nomura adapted the anime from the titular novel that was written by Ryōsuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi. Moriarty the Patriot as an anime was announced at the Jump Festa ‘20 event in December 2019. It debuted in October 2020 with eleven episodes. The sequel dropped a year later, in April 2020 on Tokyo MX, BS11 and MBS. It later premiered on Crunchyroll along with some special OVAs and now, the third iteration is expected to follow suit.

Though the creators haven’t confirmed the possibility of a possible third season, the cliffhangers left by the sequel certainly hint at it. Moreover, the grand battle between William and Sherlock remains a mystery too good to not be portrayed to the audience. There is a high chance that Nomura will back Season 3 because the author, Takeuchi has released several consecutive chapters of the titular manga.

If Jazuya begins adapting the recent chapters penned by Takeuchi, the anime would take nearly a year to return. So, Moriarty the Patriot Season 3 could be released in the first quarter of 2025 at the latest. However, there is no confirmation of the director pursuing a third iteration.

Moriarty the Patriot Anime Overview

Set in the 90s, Moriarty the Patriot follows the Moriarty brothers, Albert, William and Louis. Here, the British Empire has been bifurcated, making it impossible for anyone to climb the ladder and join the riches. The Moriarty brothers, especially William, have sworn to destroy this ramification and reconstruct the British monarchy. Their noble intentions are immersed in blood as they keep slaughtering whomever they consider a threat to their mission. As William hunts yet another megalomaniac, Sherlock, an aspiring detective, becomes suspicious. He begins investigating William but stumbles across one hurdle after another.

Meanwhile, he catches William’s attention, who starts scheming against him. Here ensues a cat-and-mouse chase between the two, with each having a different purpose. Sherlock yearns to unearth the reason behind William’s sudden interest in him. On the contrary, William aims to frame Sherlock for all the crimes he has committed so far. Driven by a sudden urge to expose William and get himself out of this tangled mess, Sherlock keeps hammering wall after wall. 

However, he stays oblivious to the conspiracy brewing against him as William struggles to conceal his secrets. The greatest arcane remains his identity, which has been stolen by Albert’s real-life brother. The anime–and the manga–build on this very secret, which remains a substantial factor steering the plot.
