What is The Koffee with Karan Series About?
Koffee with Karan began as a passion project by executive producers, Fazila Allana and Kamna Nirula Menezes. They approached KJo to host the Star Parivaar Awards for the Star Plus channel in 2004. However, he declined the offer, stating that “I don’t mind anchoring a show, but I’d rather it was a chat show”. Despite expressing disinterest in hosting the award show, he unintentionally pitched an idea and laid the foundation of Koffee with Karan. Allana and Menezes pursued the head of Star India to commission a chat show–an idea he delightfully embraced.
Johar, who is renowned as “the brain behind the show” jumped on the chance and agreed to host the show. The creators then began conceptualizing the theme of their newly commissioned show. They eventually settled on a simplistic yet smashing theme. According to them, the show revolves around “spilling the beans while having a hot cuppa.” It debuted with the infamous Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ) couple, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The creators went all in and brought multiple legendary entertainers like Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar.
