The Idol Season 2: “The Biggest Show Of Summer 2023”

Even before the release of the show The Idol, there were various rumours going around about the show. The audience was super excited about the release of this much-awaited show in 2023. In fact, Sam Levison himself called The Idol the “biggest show” of summer 2023. Then, what happened all of a sudden? Will The Idol not receive a second season? Will we not be able to witness the duo of Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye together? What is the reason? To get answers to all your questions, you will have to continue reading this article. Here, we have discussed everything about the show that we have encountered so far. We have collated all the required information in this piece just for you.

The Idol Season 2: Cancelled Or Renewed?

Before the first season of The Idol was directed, there were several controversies about the series that were getting circulated. Amy Seimetz was formerly directing the show The Idol, but she eventually left the position to Sam Levison and The Weekend (Abel Tesfaye). Consequently, the renewed version of The Idol was released on HBO and Max on 4th June 2023. The show came to an end on 2nd July 2023. Even before the show came to an end, fans were curious to know about its second season.

The Idol Season 2 has been cancelled by its creators. After the first season of the show was released with 5 episodes, the “biggest show” of summer 2023 turned into the “worst show” of all time. Everybody thought that the series would be a blockbuster hit, but the reviews were completely opposite. Before the show was released, people were excited about it as has been mentioned earlier, but after the series was released, the audience’s reviews were all in negative.

The reviews from the audience form a crucial part of any series, show, movie or any piece of entertainment for that matter. The Idol began with a lower viewership than Euphoria of Sam Levison to begin with. When the viewership of The Idol started to drop all the more, the creators were confused regarding the cancellation or renewal of the series. When the creators witnessed the swarm of negative comments that The Idol received, they decided to cancel the show without any further updates. Thus, it can be said with surety that The Idol is not going to return for another season. The show has been cancelled by its creators, and we will not witness Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye together on the screen of The Idol once again.

The Idol Storyline

The Idol is a provocative show. Close to Euphoria, it has more scenes of mature scenes that are no doubt R-rated. The storyline of The Idol revolves around “the sexiest pop star of America” Jocelyn. She has a nervous breakdown that leads to the cancellation of her last tour. Everything started to take a bad turn for her when she lost her mother to death. She takes a break of eight months from her normal career. It is during these eight months that she meets Tedros.

Now, Tedros is a sadistic man with creepy thoughts. He is the perfect patriarch and Jocelyn falls into his traps. He asks Jocelyn to perform various lewd sexual activities for him. From these activities, he derives his pleasure. Needless to say, Jocelyn and Tedros share an extremely twisted and complex relationship. The self-help guru Tedros, does not help Jocelyn at all.

In short, we can say that the storyline of The Idol is not made for everybody as Lily-Rose Depp has stated. It is crude and pretty offensive at times. Therefore, you will need to have an extremely open mind if you want to watch The Idol.
