Is One Piece Based On Manga Or Anime? Let’s Find Out

If you are one of the Netflix subscribers, you already know that One Piece is now on Netflix. No, not the anime version, but a Netflix adaptation. This is not the first time Netflix has managed to do something like this, and we are sure that this will not be the last time either. In this article, we will find out if it is based on manga or anime.

One Piece is one of the most popular manga and anime out there. You don’t need to be a hardcore otaku or an avid manga reader to know about One Piece. The story revolves around our main character, Monkey D. Luffy. This whole manga and anime is all about Luffy’s adventures as he engages in a worldwide voyage with his pirates. If you have watched the anime, you already know what I am talking about here. But without proceeding further, let us talk about our main topic.

Fans have been quite busy talking about Netflix’s One Piece. People are asking – Is One Piece based on the manga? Or is it based on One Piece anime? To know about this, please read our article here.

Is One Piece Based On Manga Or Anime? Clearing Your Doubts

When Netflix announced that they were going to release One Piece, some of the audience thought that they were probably talking about the rights of the anime. But the real surprise was when the fans discovered that this would be a live-action. And despite the failure with ‘Death Note’ otakus have not lost faith in Netflix. Because this time, they talked a lot and prepared themselves to sit with the creators. Netflix confirmed this via a post on Twitter (now called X).

Now, people are very curious about this show. Is One Piece based on anime or manga? From what source it has been taken? So, before rolling on any further, let me clear your doubts. Let me answer your questions right here. Netflix’s One Piece is based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda. If you were confused if One Piece is based on manga or anime, here you go. The Japanese series by Eiichiro Oda was taken by Netflix as their source material. They have arranged every character according to how the original Japanese manga portrayed them.

Regardless, when the trailer dropped, it got a huge number of views on YouTube. Eiichiro Oda loves his creation and he always wanted One Piece to be adapted into a live-action movie. It was his dream for years – when he saw Shaolin Soccer, he longed for this to happen. His dream came true after Netflix officially asked his permission for the live-action One Piece. They have learned from their previous failures. So, Oda trusted them with this and if you’d ask me, they have not disappointed him.
