Sintonia Season 4: What Happened To Doni? Does Cleyton Get Justice?

Justice plays an integral role in this Brazilian crime drama series. It is centred around three best friends, Luiz Fernando “Nando” Silvo (Malheiros), Donizete “Doni” Santana da Costa (Jottapê) and Rita (Bruna Mascarenhas). Netflix’s Sintonia is popular for exploring the crime drama genre along by portraying criminal activities lurking in the favelas. Directed by Johnny Araújo and KondZilla, this series blends music beats, drug dopamines and religious beliefs by a thread of friendship. These three friends hail from one such favela (a slum-like area) and have been sticking by each other through thin and thick.

While Nando is involved with several criminal activities, he now wants to leave the world of crime behind him. When he tries to do, his own people turn against him and arrange an attack on his cafe inauguration. In this attack, Doni is hit by a bullet, Nando is severely injured and his wife, Scheyla (Julia Yamaguchi) is arrested. Meanwhile, Rita is left to deal with the aftermath of the attack and witness Doni struggle to survive.

What Happened To Doni?

What Happened To Doni?

Though the attackers are aimed at Nando, Doni is caught by a bullet unintentionally. Rita immediately calls an ambulance and rushes him through the hospital, whispering prayers in his ear constantly. Doni almost gives up but somehow, he is revived back by the paramedics and Rita’s support. He is immediately put into surgery, which turns out to be a success. However, Doni ends up in a coma for a while with his lower half being thoroughly damaged.

Doni has to undergo several surgeries due to the bullet that almost pierced his spine. Even if all the surgeries are a success, he is confined to a wheelchair. His rap career is endangered by his inactivity and so is his friendship with Nando who already has a lot on his plate.

Doni has always been a cheerful rapper with a knack for funk and can no longer live without the beats. But as time passes by and he finally gets rid of the wheelchair, his interests are evolved. With his loans and debts piling up, Doni has to make a quick move. He could no longer afford a manager and leaving music is not an option. When he comes across a barber, Jaspion, at his barbershop anniversary celebration, an idea strikes him. Hearing underprivileged yet talented rappers, Doni starts a new team of fresh writers and starts a sort-of agency of himself.

Rita Finds Another Career Trajectory

Doni isn’t the only one who changes his career trajectory but Rita, too, has a similar experience. The previous season challenged Rita’s religious beliefs but witnessing Doni being revived again with her prayers, her faith is affirmed. As Rita sits in the church, asking God to show her the right path, she comes across a high schooler who’s supposedly running late. Considering it is God’s signal, Rita decides to pursue school once again.

She enrols into a school and starts preparing for a national level exam, pursuing her passion to study law. Rita has witnessed the injustice occurring to the favelas with her boyfriend, Cleyton, being unjustly arrested for first-degree murder. Moreover, she has watched Nando slipping down into a life of crime due to his poverty and poor circumstances. Now, Rita wants to become the bridge between the underprivileged and the law. That’s when her boyfriend, Cleyton, is released from prison.

Does Cleyton Get Justice?

Cleyton used to work for Nando as one of his several team members. Since he was naive and resourceless, resorting to crime seemed the only logical choice at the time. However, he didn’t realize the gravity of his situation before he picked up the gun gifted by Nando. Despite Nando being a ruthless crime organizer, he has a soft corner for everyone around him, Cleyton included.

So, after the storm has calmed down, Nando arranges Cleyton’s bail and helps him get out of prison. He rushes to his girlfriend, Rita, and tries to make legitimate money by becoming a delivery boy. In reality, though, Cleyton is just buying time before he is locked up again. No one gets away with first-degree murder, especially not when government officials are trying to camouflage the bigger fish by slaughtering the smaller ones.

In the end, as the situation with Nando and Scheyla escalates, justice is served for everyone. At least, for Cleyton and Rita. As Sintonia Season 4 nears climax and both Cleyton and Scheyla sit for their trial, they are ruled non-guilty. However, a twist awaits at the end of Netflix’s Sintonia Season 4 for Nando and Scheyla!
