Ever since July 2020, Kajol’s new web series, The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhokha has been raising anticipation. The director, Suparn Verna, known for directing the popular Rana Naidu, has kept the flame simmering. Hussain Dalal, Abbas Dalal and Siddharth Kumar along with Verna have adapted Robert King and Michelle King’s The Good Wife into The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhokha for Disney Hotstar. The tale is of a betrayed wife, Noyonika Sengupta (Kajol) who is left to rearrange the shattered shards of her life and provide her daughters with a somewhat stable life.
When Noyonika’s husband, Rajeev Sengupta’s (Jisshu Sengupta) explicit video goes viral, she becomes the laughing material for the town. With news reporters such as Daksh Rathod mocking her and questioning her involvement in the scandal, Noyonika has no shoulders to rely upon. Rajeev’s bank accounts are frozen and his properties are sealed upon his arrest, leaving Noyonika to fend for herself and her two daughters, Ananya and Anaira. In such a dire situation, her decades-long friend, Vishal Chaubey (Alyy Khan) hops to her rescue.
But there’s no saving Noyonika, especially with her husband’s fresh betrayal. So, exactly how does Rajeev betray Noyonika again? Find out below!
How Does Rajeev Betray Noyonika Again?
Fresh out of prison, all thanks to his best friend, Ilyas, Noyonika and Vishal, Rajeev is still as self-centred as always. But nothing is the same, not in the conventional sense anyway. Noyonika is no longer a housewife, she’s an up-and-coming lawyer working alongside Vishal and Malini Khanna (Sheeba Chaddha). Her fierce streak is on full display and she no longer cares for the upheaval Rajeev has caused. On the other hand, though she helps Rajeev win the trial and stays loyal to him.
Though Malini initially denies Noyonika a permanent position due to the scarcity of funds and high-profile cases, the situation is quickly rectified by Rajeev and Ilyas. After winning Rajeev’s case, Noyonika is in full form and with a little nudge from Ilyas, all his politician friends want to work with her law firm. Noyonika’s colleague, Dhiraj Paswan (Gaurav Pandey), who was chosen as a permanent employee is shown the door. He blames nepotism and Noyonika blames Rajeev but chooses to not drag the matter.
As if cheating on her with who knows how many women and interfering with her career wasn’t enough, Rajeev has another surprise for his wife. The former lawyer is now running for the State elections with Ilyas having his back. As Noyonika stands on the stage, clutching her husband’s hand in front of the entire media, she has only one reaction–a nonchalant smile.
Will Ilyas Tell Noyonika The Truth?
Before Noyonika climbs on the stage though, she gets a call from her best friend, Vishal. He confesses to his love, claiming that he “wouldn’t forgive himself” if he didn’t tell her right away. After Noyonika and Vishal’s business trip goes wrong due to a sudden kiss, the former has been distancing herself from him. It is her misplaced sense of commitment towards her family that becomes an obstruction for them.
Moreover, Noyonika is scarred due to Rajeev’s cheating and the accusations thrown her way due to him. To her love isn’t enough anymore and she wants Vishal to have a plan for their future. As she hangs up and walks towards Rajeev on the stage, Vishal watches the Sengupta couple on his television. He picks up his phone and calls her again, having his back turned to the television and records a voice message for Noyonika.
He asks her to marry him and divorce Rajeev. But instead of Noyonika, the message is heard by Ilyas. As the credits roll down, the question becomes pertinent. Will Ilyas tell Noyonika the truth regarding Vishal’s message or his loyalty towards Rajeev will pull him back?
Whom Will Noyonika Choose Between Rajeev And Vishal?
Throughout the series, this question serves as the major hook. After initially turning Rajeev’s cheek red due to a tight slap, Noyonika suddenly turns docile. Apart from a few snide remarks and taunts, Noyonika seems completely normal towards Rajeev. She tries consulting a divorce lawyer to weigh her options but ends up choosing not to proceed with the procedure.
Then, Noyonika gets busy with her career and starts working on Rajeev’s case alongside Vishal. While Rajeev has been neglectful towards her, Vishal is the epitome of attentiveness. He supports Noyonika in her hardest phase without asking for anything in return like the loyal one-sided lover he is. At the end of The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhokha, and Noyonika has her fingers draped across Rajeev’s but his surprise could possibly change her decision.
After everything Rajeev has put her through, would she risk having her heart and trust broken again? Whom will Noyonika choose between Rajeev and Vishal? The answer lies in the sequel of The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhokha which is yet to receive an official confirmation date.
