Back To 15 Season 2 Ending Explained: How Does The Time-Travel Loop End?

Netflix is featuring the coming-of-age Brazilian dramedy, Back To 15 Season 2 after a year-long wait. Adapted from the eponymous by Bruna Vieira, Back To 15 spins around a 30-something Anita (Maisa Silva/Camila Queiroz), an immensely successful photographer drowning in opulence and tubs of ice creams. With only wine as her best friend, Anita lives a life of solitude bordering loneliness but she’s too proud to admit. Even the mere thought of attending her sister, Luise’s wedding and coming face-to-face with her childhood friends becomes a nightmare for her.

As Anita’s nightmare becomes her reality, she is thrown off-kilter by the dire conditions of her friends. Now struck with guilt, Anita starts to believe their circumstances are her responsibility and she shouldn’t have selfishly chased her dreams. In her drunken glory, Anita stumbles upon her Photoblog (an Instagram-like social media) and posts a picture of herself–something she hasn’t done before. And boom! Anita has time-travelled a decade and a half back when she was just 15 and holds the ability to rectify her mistakes. After Anita has discovered that both of her friends, Henrique and Joel, have a major crush on her, she is torn. Since Henrique has turned out to be a popular musician in her dreamland, Paris, Anita decides to leave everything behind and chase him. What she doesn’t realize is she’s stranding Joel on a date to leave for Paris. Now embarrassed, angry and drunk, Joel stumbles across a picture Anita just posted with Henrique. In his drunken state, Joel decides to delete a picture of him Anita posted on her Photoblog. He hacks into her account and yes, Joel has time-travelled back to his 15s! 

As Anita tries to log in back to her account, her laptop hangs but is immediately transported back to her 15s when a festival is happening at her school. Dumbfounded, Anita makes her way inside to find her cousin, Carol (Klara Castanho/Yana Sardenberg) playing the host, Henrique working with his guitar and her Luiza away from town. As she tries to step further into the scenario, Anita discovers Joel who’s acting suspiciously.

Both of them connect the dots and realize the whole mystery behind the timeline issue!

Is Anita Able To Salvage Luiza’s Circumstances?

Joel instantly demands to be transported back in time but Anita has different motives. Playing the matchmaker, salvaging circumstances and crafting a future for her friends seem to be high on her agenda. Joel, who’s still hung over Anita’s little stint, accuses her of being selfish but quickly realizes her intentions. The two form a team and start working towards steering their friends towards the right direction with the right people.

Cesar, who has always felt like an outcast due to his feminine urges, is struggling with an identity crisis. Luiza’s ex-boyfriend, Fabricio, has started to form a crush on Anita. Henrique and Joel are not on the best terms and Douglas, a rich classmate and team member, is trying to get Carol’s attention. Overall, the situation is a mess. But Joel and Anita are pretty sure they could help each other and their friends without realizing their interference isn’t only disturbing the timeline but dampening their futures, too.

Anita tries to help her sister overcome the weight of their mother, Vania’s expectations. She does her best to refrain Luiza from making any wrong choices, such as dating the bully, Eduardo. While she succeeds immensely, Anita isn’t able to salvage Luiza’s situation.

Joel, after he wins a raffle at Saint John’s, developed a habit of jotting down important details in a journal. The 30-year-old Joel has crafted an information-overloaded journal that could influence these 15-year-old teenagers’ futures. As Anita and Joel, as adults, meet their friends again, they are shocked to see the outcome of their meddling. Carol is now a coach and has ended up with Douglas. Henrique has given up on music after his argument with Anita decades back and is now a real estate agent, barely making ends meet. 

Luiza is married to Fabricio and the two of them are running a joint but their financial condition is the worst among them. Cesar has undergone a gender-revolutionizing surgery and is now Camille, a fiction writer. 

She is in a relationship with Spark, who has been her support system throughout her self-discovery. Apart from Cesar, the entire gang stands on the verge of a financial crisis due to Eduardo stealing Joel’s journal. With Joel’s time travel stunts, he ended up giving his bully leverage over him and everybody.

Back To 15 Season 2 Ending Explained: Anita Decides To End The Time-Travel Loop After A Chilling Scare

As Anita and Joel are urged by their friends to reverse their situations, a tired and terrified Anita agrees. The duo travels back in time to the festival that changed their future. Their plan is simple; get Joel’s journal from Eduardo and prove the words written in it to be false.

As soon as they land back in their 15s, havoc ensues. Eduardo fights Joel with all his might and believes his journal to be true after receiving the raffle as a prize. Though Anita and Joel manage to tear the journal from Eduardo, the former is done with the Photoblog and time travel stunts. She has realized the significance of letting the present moment be a one-time film. With everyone having their happily ever afters, Anita decides to log off the Photoblog and asks the time travelling tool to leave it on herself.
