The Jérémie Rozan directed and written Cash/Gold Brick film tries its hardest to balance the numerous story arcs instilled in it. With the relatable characters and scenarios Rozan has painted, the film succeeds to establish the said balance. Though Daniel is the main protagonist, Patrick manages to bring the air of brooding loneliness that makes this question even more prominent.

It is no secret that family-owned businesses hold a major share of the market due to their loyal fanbase. Generations upon generations spend their lives sticking to the family business and suppressing their interests. Rozan not only uses a middle-class man’s grudge against the riches but also unfolds the life of a man whose wealth equals loneliness and betrayals.

Breuil & Sons has been ruling the Parisian luxury perfume industry for decades. It employs thousands of people and deals swims in millions of dollars. As realistic as the company and its story might feel, it isn’t real. Breuil & Sons is not a real company, but rather a figment of Rozan’s imagination. It seems like the director and writer took inspiration from several French luxury perfume brands before crafting a fictional one to serve his film.

Is Cash/Gold Brick Based On A True Story?

There’s a reason greed is considered to be a lethargic sin and this heist drama makes sure to assert that phrase. It begins with stealing one bottle to a few before Sauveur eventually creates a network of people who steal from Patrick. It is Daniel’s rage that transforms into revenge until he has no explanation for stealing millions of dollars.

Steal from the rich has become a genre on its own and Cash/Gold Brick is a gem joining the list. With its incredibly intricate storyline and highly realistic elements, it is easy to perceive the film as a true story. However, Cash/Gold Brick is not based on a true story. It is entirely fictional and a byproduct of Jérémie’s creative imagination.

Is Daniel Sauveur A Real-Life Person?

This Netflix comedy thriller marks Jérémie’s debut as a writer and director. It certainly feels like the film has been helmed by an experienced professional though. While it comes down to the elements that seem realistic, I could go on and write a bullet list. On top of them would be Quenard’s character, Daniel Sauveur. From harbouring an ambition to grow away from the Breuils’ shadows to asserting revenge on Patrick, Daniel manages to set the bar of realism high.

Yet, similar to the answer to the previous two questions, this one is a no, too. Daniel Sauveur isn’t a real-life person. Whether Rozan has based the character on a real-life con artist or not is yet to be revealed though. The possibility of that isn’t high though since Cash/Gold Brick is entirely Rozan’s imagination.
