The Surrogacy aka Madre De Alquiler is centred around an indigent golden-skin coloured woman, Yeni (Shani Lozano) who is brought to the affluent Huizar family. Julia (Marcela Guirado) suffers from infertility issues but she longs to become a mother. So, she convinces her husband, Carlos Huizar (Luis Ernesto Franco) to give surrogacy a chance and tricks Yeni into her plan. Is The Surrogacy Based On A True Story?
The Surrogacy is hailed by many as a unique blend of the emotional turmoil endured by both, the surrogate and the biological mother. Rather, it is helmed by Araceli Guajardo who managed to instil realistic elements in the cinematography and helps articulate this Netflix series. Though Guajardo is yet to confirm the intentions that lead towards the creation of The Surrogacy, it is obvious that no real-life story inspires it. The Surrogacy is an imaginary work of fiction that assembles genres such as suspense, thrill, emotional drama and more into one, orchestrating a compelling watch.

The Surrogacy Isn’t Just About A Quarrel Between Two Mothers
What makes this overtly time-consuming series is its underlying essence and artistic delivery of it. On the surface, The Surrogacy is Yeni’s struggle as she shoulders the responsibility of a differently abled son. Underneath it lurks a complicated relationship though. While Julia has trapped Yeni in it without her understanding, Julia’s intentions were pure. When Yeni delivered the baby, neither Carlos nor Julia was informed of the deformity. Nora played the three of them and their lives became an entangled mess of tears, chases and reputation-related issues.
Yeni isn’t as fair-skinned as the rest of the Huizars and this difference initially weighs her moral down. However, as the series progresses, Yeni outgrows her insecurities and embraces the change inflicted upon her by her circumstances. The Surrogacy has several themes at the heart of it. These themes make it one of the most compelling series of June 2023.
Is The Huizar Pharmaceuticals A Real Organization?
Throughout the 24 episodes of The Surrogacy, the Huizar Pharmaceutical Organizations plays a key role in the lives of the characters. This organization doesn’t only deal with licensed drugs and medications, it also supports experimental searches on live humans. Just like Mexico once banned surrogacy, the world still doesn’t approve of such trials. However, the leader of the organization, Nora Huizar (Leticia Calderon) doesn’t seem to understand any of it. She has been indulging in the creation of a postpartum drug that is more harmful than beneficial.
Any woman who takes this drug undergoes severe internal issues with the major one being delivering children with clubfoot disorder. Several women have come forward and reported this issue. Moreover, a particular man, Ochoa has filed a lawsuit against Nora’s organization. But like the deceitful, manipulative and selfish person Nora is, she doles out a rather generic apology. Claiming that the most special discoveries have to undergo such mistakes, Nora excuses her behaviour.
As much as Nora’s character fits into the general structure of a money-driven, business-oriented, ruthless woman, it is just a piece of Guajardo’s imagination. Huizar Pharmaceuticals doesn’t exist in real life and is another story arc manifested by Araceli.
