Shetland is a British Television Crime Mystery Drama Series created by Ann Cleeves and ITV Studios for BBC Scotland. It was first Premiered on BBC One on 10th March 2013. This series was directed and created for television by David Kane. David Kane was the principal writer for this series.

This series was based on novels by Ann Cleeves. It was released in the United Kingdom first and then released internationally on Netflix. It consists total 6 number of seasons with a total of 32 episodes with 57 minutes of runtime on each episode.

Shetland was Executively produced by Christopher Aird, Elaine Collins, and Kate Bartlett. It was produced by Sue de Beauvoir, Peter Gallagher, and Eric Coulter.

Yes! Shetland is real and it’s in Scotland or basically between Great Britain, the Faroe Islands, and Norway. Shetland or Old Norse or the Shetland Islands and formally Zetland is the northernmost part of the United Kingdom.

It lies about 80 kilometers(50 miles) northeast of Orkney,170 kilometers(110 miles) from mainland Scotland, and 220 kilometers (140 miles) west of Norway, on the border between the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. Its total area is 1,466 km squires around 566 sq in miles. The population of the island is just 22,920 as of 2019.

The Shetland Islands Council is one of the 32 local authorities in Scotland. The islands form the Shetland constituency of the Scottish Parliament. Local governments are governed by the 32 councils of Scotland, with Lerwick serving as the administrative center and only burgh of Shetland since 1708, when Scalloway was the capital.

Shetlands has a total area of 967 hectares 373 sq in miles, making it the fifth-largest island in the British Isles. There are another 15 inhabited islands in the area.

Located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the archipelago has an ocean climate, complex geology, and a coastline with rugged terrain.

As early as the Mesolithic age, humans lived in Shetland. Later, it was influenced by Scandinavians, especially from Norway. When the kingdom of Great Britain was formed in 1707, trade between continental northern European parts and Shetlands.

Fishing has always been an important part of the islands’ economy which was boosted by the discovery of North Sea oil in the 1970s.

The islands have a strong musical tradition, especially fiddle music, and are characterized by their Norse heritage. The islands have produced many poets and prose writers who have often written their distinctive dialects.

On the Shetland islands, many areas have been protected because of their rich fauna and flora, including many important nesting sites for seabirds. Shetlands ponies and Shetland sheepdogs are two of the most famous animals on the island.

 There are several Shetlands breeds, including the Shetland pony and Shetland sheepdog. There are also Shetland sheep, a cow, goose, and duck. The Grice, or Shetland pig, has been extinct since 1930.

Although some of the filmings take place on the mainland of Scotland, the story takes place largely on an eponymous Scottish archipelago. Exterior location filming typically occurs in Shetlands; in 2021, two segments of series 6 and 7 were filmed in Shetlands, each lasting about six weeks and interior locations may be filmed in Shetland or west-central Scotland.

Henshall won the best actor BAFTA award in 2016 and this series won the best Tv Drama award at BAFTA.

Two further series of Shetland were announced by BBC One on 2 December 2019, with Henshall and O’Donnell returning to their roles. Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus COVID-19, the production was postponed. The sixth season has been broadcasted as of November 2021. The Sixth series began broadcasting on 20th October 2021.
