Julie and the Phantoms is a 2020 American musical comedy show that premiered on Netflix. The show is created by Dan Cross and David Hoge and is based upon the Brazilian show Julie e os Fantasmas which was made by Paula Knudsen, Tiago Mello, and Fabio Danesi. It currently has one season with 9 episodes with an average runtime of 24 to 38 minutes per episode. The show has managed to receive critical and commercial praise, audiences and critics both have liked the show for its crazy humor, and the addition of horror elements makes it a fun watch. Julie and the Phantoms have gained a successful 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with average ratings ranging around 7.9 to 8.1 out of 10 which indicates a favorable response from the viewers.

Julie And The Phantoms Season 2 Release Date

Development for Julie and the Phantoms began on 9th April 2019 when director Kenny Ortega signed multiple projects deal with Netflix in which one of the projects he was to direct was Julie and the Phantoms. Ortega served as the executive producer for the show along with its creators Dan Cross and David Hoge. On 21st July 2020, the cast of the show was announced with various additions to it along with the release date. The filming of Julie and the Phantoms started on 17th September 2019 and ended on 14th December 2019, filming took place in Burnaby, British Columbia.

On 26th August 2020, the official trailer of the show was released across multiple platforms and the show itself started to premiere on 10th September 2020 on Netflix, all the episodes were released on a single day itself. As of now, there has been no official announcement made regarding a second season after almost a year of the release of the first one but looking into the ending of season one that ended with a cliffhanger we can surely expect a season 2 to the show, show creators have also hinted towards a new season and we can expect the new season to get released around mid-2023.

Julie is a teenage girl who finds her love and passion in music, she meets the Phantoms a high school boy band who have died 25 years ago, now Julie helps them become famous and helps the Phantoms gain the recognition they never got when they were alive.

Julie And The Phantoms Season 1 Recap

The story starts in the year 1995 when the band sunset curve is set to perform for a show in Los Angeles, after doing a sound check 3 members of the band Luke, Alex and Reggie leave to eat a hotdog before the show starts while the fourth one waits as he was flirting with a waitress, the hotdogs turned out to be poisonous and the band members die due to food poisoning, 25 years later teenage girl Julie Molina is kicked out of the music group of her school as she was underperforming due to her mother’s death which made her emotionally unable to play music.

While cleaning an old shelf of her mother Julie accidentally discovers an old CD of sunset curve and as she plays the CD she summons the ghosts of dead band members, she initially fears them but later lets the band members stay with her.

As Julie starts to sing again, the band members are astonished by her talent, and with the help of Julie’s friend Flynn, they encourage her to fight for the spot in the music program which she deserved. Sunset curve asks Julie to join their group which makes Julie go in a state of confusion. Flynn arranges a performance by Julie and the Phantoms at the school dance, meanwhile the boys have other plans to teach an old friend a lesson. Julie along with the Phantoms perform at the Orphium, the dream place for Julie to perform and the same place where the boys died.

Madison Reyes plays Julie Molina, a teenage girl who is struggling emotionally after her mother’s death but finds her support and motivation from the members of a dead boy band. Charlie Gillispie plays Luke the lead guitarist of the Phantoms who soon becomes the love interest, Julie. Owen Patrick Joyner plays Alex the drummer of Phantoms who falls in love with a fellow ghost named Willie. Jeremy Shada plays Reggie who is the bass guitarist of the Phantoms. Jadah Marie plays Flynn, Julie’s best friend who eventually finds out about the dead band members.
