D.P: The Story: Is K-Drama DP Based On A True Story?
It is about Ahn Joo-ho who is the lead character in this series. He is actually a young private who is responsible for completing an uncanny duty. This duty of his is to find soldiers from the army who have left the army on their own. As told earlier the series is based on a Webtoon created by Bo- Tong. When he created the Webtoon he got inspired from the then D.P. unit in the army. Now Joo-ho is not at all made for the job but he makes a group between him and Corporal Han Ho-yul. This is what makes the story of the series more interesting and engaging.
Now, as told earlier what is true in this series is the two-year military service that is mandatory for all. So, we can see Joo-ho joining the army to serve the two years. Only some athletes and K-pop stars are exempted from this mandatory rule in South Korea. Being a detective is loved by Joo-ho a lot but it also horrifies him when he knows about the subjects he caught. The reason why the left army startles him every time. But most of them who go AWOL are tortured to the extreme that they have to leave. This fact is now known by Joo-ho and he is very sad in knowing this.
This unit named “Deserters Pursuit” or “D.P.” is also present in real life. In the series ahead we see Joo-Ho having some sympathy for the people who left the army and he doesn’t prosecute them. This is due to the fact that he knows about the army and their bullying. Such bullying and hazing in the army is so that the young soldiers learn military discipline and life. But it didn’t happen and instead, soldiers are now leaving the army. Also, we see in the series that sometimes the soldiers have to die due to the actions of their senior officers. These deaths are regarded as “Non- Non-combat deaths” and are still continuing. So this series with its thrilling story is not completely fictional but has some reality in it.
