The Out Laws Ending Explained: Why Does Owen Kill Rehan?

From the director of The Wrong Missy, Tyler Spindel, here arrives a new comedy movie entitled The Out Laws. Featuring the writer and producer of Workaholics, Adam DeVine in the lead role as Owen Browning, the Netflix film revolves around a bank robbery in which Owen becomes a suspect. It is his crazy antics, howlings and mewlings that land him in huge trouble with his equally crazy in-laws. The movie commences with commissioning an ecstatic couple, Owen and Parker McDermott (Nina Dobrev) busy with their wedding preparations. Owen’s refreshingly boisterous personality is matched by Parker on all levels. They met a couple of years ago when Owen enrolled into a yoga studio and Parker turned out to be his instructor.

Given Owen’s childish recklessness, he ended up stuck in one pose and passed out due to the stiffness. As it happens, Owen lured Parker towards him with his engrossing personality and the two became a happy couple. Their happiness is extremely challenged when P’s parents, Lilly (Ellen Barkin) and Billy (Pierce Brosnon) knock on Owen’s door. Oh, right, they don’t knock; they barge in directly. And their ambush flips over Owen’s world.

The Out Laws Plot

If Owen is crazy mad, his in-laws aren’t charting high on the sanity spectrum either. With their rhyming names arrive their synchronous personality, too. Billy gives off the classic gangsta vibes but Lilly has her game a level ahead; she wears a mask of ruthlessness and innocent oblivion. And like the naive gigolo he is, Owen chalks off their behaviour to their residence.

His belief is crashed soon though. As Parker puts it, Owen took a leave for the first time in his life to dedicate it to her parents. As Owen, Lilly and Billy go on a small tour of the town, we are introduced to a diamond smuggler, Rehan (Poorna Jagannathan). After torturing Owen through paragliding rounds and tattoo inks, the couple decides to take their future son-in-law for a drink. However, their true intention of dragging Owen to a club is revealed soon.

What Is Billy And Lilly’s Connection With Rehan?

In a secluded corner of the club, with armed bodyguards sits Rehan as if she’s a queen of a fantastical kingdom. What’s even more alarming is Billy’s involvement with the said felony. As the two interact, Lily starts to break a sweat. As it turns out, there is a deep connection between the three and what better kinship than vengeance?

Rehan, Billy and Lilly were once a team of professional thieves who robbed banks and enjoyed their stunts. The couple did the leg work while Rehan orchestrated the plan. It worked well for the trio, but not for long. Rehan’s intentions grew darker and her ambitions skyrocketed over time. When Parker was born, Lilly and Billy decided to elope with their little angel. To sustain themselves for a couple of years, they participated in another heist. Instead of returning the money back to Rehan, they ran away to Amazon and spent their life lying low.

The Out Laws Ending Explained: Why Does Owen Kill Rehan?

Now that Rehan has discovered Owen and his position in the bank, she wants her 5 million dollars back. Succumbing to her demands, Lilly extracts the code of the locker from a drunk Owen. As Owen wakes up the next morning, boom, his bank is robbed!

Owen suspects his in-laws to be behind the bank robbery and shares the same with his colleague and friend, Tyree. However, he has no evidence they participated in the heist. He’s brought for questioning by an FBI agent, Roger Oldham (Michael Rooker), who forces Owen to bring in the confession of his in-laws if he wants to get out unscathed. Before Owen could do so, Rehan kidnaps Parker and he finds himself trapped.

To save his fiance, Owen agrees to help his in-laws rob a bank. Both Lilly and Billy are suspicious but desperate enough to let him on the plan. As expected, their robbery is a grand spectacle of flying dollars, alarming sirens and a round of hysterics. But Owen successfully brings the money to Rehan who flips on her words and puts a gun on Parker’s forehead. Believing his in-laws stuck a water gun in his hand, Owen shoots Rehan and her goons, ending the evil criminal tormenting their lives but it was truly unintentional.

Do Billy And Lilly Escape From Prison?

If you’re expecting Owen or Parker to be flabbergasted, you’re in for a surprise because they aren’t. They casually walk away but all isn’t well yet. Billy and Lilly who were trying to divert the attention of the police are caught. Oldham, who’s been chasing them relentlessly finally succeeds.

Flash forward a couple of days ago and it is the wedding day! Owen and Parker are finally married and their wedding reception is every bit of the messy feat I expected it to be. With Owen’s parents, Neil and Margie, finally accepting Parker as a yoga instructor, not all hope is lost. Lilly and Billy join the newly wedded couple after bribing Oldham by finding his long-lost friend as the credits roll down.
