And Just Like That Season 3 Release Date: Will HBO Renew The Comedy Drama?

It wouldn’t be fair to call HBO’s And Just Like That another romantic drama, especially after the series launched several hyperactive and intense story arcs. Stitched from parts of the popular dramedy Sex and the City, And Just Like That serves as a spin-off of the series. Though initially billed as a miniseries by HBO, the streaming service eventually succumbed to the popularity–and maybe, criticism?–of the show and decided to let Michael Patrick King have another go. It seemed like the logical choice at the time given that And Just Like That fans were enthralled upon having their favourite characters prancing on the screen.

HBO and King tried their best to work on the flaws straightforwardly pointed out by its fans in the sequel. Will And Just Like That Season 3 receive the same courtesy from HBO and King? Or would Season 2 would be the end of the series? Fans are brimming with questions, indeed.

And Just Like That Season 3 Release Date

It might not be a huge deal for a miniseries to be approved for a sequel, especially when its fandom spans millions. In late 2020, Michael decided to manifest a spinoff of the infamous comedy-drama which premiered on December 9, 2021, on HBO Max. It stirred high waves but couldn’t fulfil the audience’s expectations and was criticized highly for several factors including the flaws in the script. The mixed reviews didn’t deter King from launching a sequel–maybe, it was the reason? That’s still out for debate though.

And Just Like That Season 2 was released on HBO on June 22, 2023, with two episodes to its name. The rest of the nine episodes are scheduled to premiere weekly every Thursday. So far, these two episodes aren’t received with the same warmth as its inspiring series. There are more to come of course and probably, King and his team have some surprise plot arcs for us.

Regarding And Just Like That Season 3, the makers haven’t yet confirmed it and it seems like they are focused entirely on the sequel. Given HBO originally billed the series as a miniseries, the chances of a third season aren’t high. It all depends on how Season 2 is received for the makers to consider Season 3. If it is approved, And Just Like That Season 3 could premiere in mid-2024.

And Just Like That Season 1 Recap

As Michael, who envisioned the world of a mid-life crisis, once said, And Just Like That is all about adapting real-life scenarios–and articulating comedy into it? He forgot that part, it seems. The series is centred around middle-aged women and their messy romance and professional lives. This revamped show wasted no time diving into the lives of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis). And the recently introduced characters Dr. Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman), Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) do not hold back either.

Carrie and Miranda are no longer in their 30s and are bordering their 50s now but the crisis they face in their lives is as dramatic as possible. With Carrie’s husband, John Big Preston (Chris Noth) dead, she is left to fend off her increasing grief and deal with the shreds of her broken heart. Meanwhile, the unapologetic Miranda is struggling with her ambivalent feelings towards Che and her husband, Steve Brady (David Eigenberg). Also, their teen son, Brady (Niall Cunnigham) is now in a relationship and Miranda doesn’t find it easy to tolerate, appearing to be a doting mother hen.

Charlotte and her husband, Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler), are struggling through the same issues with their daughters. Lily (Cathy Ang) is a musical genius while Rose is an aspiring entrepreneur, too. On the other hand, Stanford (Willie Garson) and Anthony (Mario Cantone) stand on the verge of divorce, too, with the former becoming an established travel agent. And Just Like That Season 1 is centred around self-discovery, getting in and out of a complex relationship and dealing with grief.

And Just Like That Season 2 Overview

And Just Like That Season 3

Season 1 has been centred around Carrie’s over-flooding grief and anxiety issues faced by Miranda among other intense feelings faced by the myriad of characters. Season 2 is relatively centred around drama from what the two episodes so far entail. The newly introduced characters are tagged along this season, too, and they prove to be a fresh breath of air.

Seema, a real estate agent, is now friends with Carrie, having been supporting Carrie weave through the struggles of selling her husband’s condo earlier. Nya and Miranda have developed a strong bond and feel comfortable enough to discuss their internal matters. Nya and her husband, Andre, are trying for IVF but their attempts have so far proved to be futile.

Charlotte’s daughter, Rose, has now started to accept that she is a non-binary transgender and has decided to go by the name, Rock. Seema breaks up with her boyfriend after being heartbroken over the fact that he was still living with his ex-wife. Miranda decides to divorce her husband and move to Los Angeles to stay close to Che, who is struggling with her career as a stand-up comedian.

And Just Like That Season 3 Plot

The highlight of And Just Like That is its focus on real-life messy issues. As the second episode of And Just Like That Season 2 climaxes, we are left reeling and screaming at Che! Though Miranda is still struggling with her life in Los Angeles, her feelings towards Che keep her undeterred. When Che stands with her husband, to pick Miranda up from a beach, their relationship dynamics transform entirely. Che tries explaining that there is nothing serious between them, but Miranda finds it hard to believe. On the other hand, Carrie’s relationship with her producer, Franklyn (Ivan Hernandez), undergoes a mutual breakup.

So far, the level of drama keeps rising in And Just Like That Season 2 and that is what we can expect from Season 3, too. One key story arc for this plausible season could be reviving the lost friendship of Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) with Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Stanford. Since it is rumoured that Samantha is arriving again for And Just Like That Season 2, her presence will most likely be welcomed in another season, too.

The series doesn’t follow a set pattern or a fixed plot, rather it juggles its way with slices of the lives of these characters. It experiments with their love life instils bucketloads of drama into it and lets its characters emerge stronger and more relatable than ever. If And Just Like That Season 3 is greenlit, we would have another dose of drama laden with spice and salt–and of course, a bit of honey, too!

And Just Like That Season 3 Cast And Character Guide

Be it clashing over bizarre issues or helping each other contemplate their next moves, And Just Like That revolves around the lives of a tight-knit friends group. The first member of the group and probably the one with an iota of stability is Carrie Bradshaw, portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker. Carrie hosts a podcast and after the death of her husband, she has become a little anxious but she’s dealing with it like the champ she is. Meanwhile, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) has become more relationship-oriented than the rest of her clan. Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) is a doting mother, who has taken motherhood as a full-time job.

Aside from these three super-dramatic ladies, the newly introduced bunch of equally crazy ladies can be expected to join And Just Like That Season 3, too. Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), her husband, Herbert (Chris Jackson), Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman) and Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) would be joining the cast list of And Just Like That Season 3 if it is greenlit by HBO!
