Where Was F9: The Fast Saga Filmed?

The legendary American film franchise, Fast and Furious, is a rich spectacle of exploding cars, familial patriarchs, and of course, high-octane action. It has been a regular entertainer for well over two decades and has amassed a fanbase spanning millions–if not a couple of billions. These films have been kindling an almost invincible bond with their fans, which is a part of this adrenaline-induced franchise’s charm. Its ninth installment, F9: The Fast Saga reinforces that relationship by resurrecting a quarter of old faces. It’s automatically a delight when Vin Diesal, John Cena, Tyrese Gibbon, and Michelle Rodriguez come together with their bustling energy and enigmatic personalities.

While the entire progression is renowned for spanning multiple cities and blowing a couple of dozen cars, F9 had particularly set new records. So, let’s dig deep into F9: The Fast Saga entirely, starting with its filming location!

Where Was F9: The Fast Saga Filmed?

Where Was F9: The Fast Saga Filmed?

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to pinpoint that The Fast Saga meanders across several story points and of course, locations. It commences in the United States, particularly California (emphasis on Los Angeles here). Then, F9 wanders towards Tbilisi in Georgia, where some glorious action scenes are shot. The director, Justin Lin, then skyrockets the film and lands in England, where most of the high-octane sequences are filmed. Edinburgh and London have been the major shooting cities of England, at least.

The crew also camped in Thailand, where they established their set, particularly in Krabi, Pha-ngan, and Phuket. Lin chose to record a specific segment in the scenic landscape of Ban Nai Sa in Khao Thong. The crew members also went on to the Wat Nai Sa Temple to film a rather emotional scene before wrapping up the shooting. Though it isn’t confirmed, some sources cite that Lin also went to Germany to record some fictional test sites.

Of course, Lin took the actors spiralling into the stratosphere but well, its primary filming location remains England. The shooting for F9: The Fast Saga wrapped up in 2019 after the director used nearly a dozen filming locations. The final editing took place at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, England.

F9: The Fast Saga Overview

F9: The Fast Saga is essentially a sequel to the 2017 film, The Fate of the Furious. It trudges on the same path as its predecessors and features a familial bond so strong, it binds the entire film together. At the heart of the film are Jack Toretto’s (J. D. Pardo) sons, Dominic (Vin Diesel) and Jakob (John Cena). After Jack’s alleged death, Dom blames Jakob for murdering their father and kicks him out of the town. Here ensues a cut-throat rivalry between the siblings that forms the central theme of the film.

A few decades later, Dom is retired and is peacefully raising two kids with his wife, Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez). Meanwhile, Tej Parker (Chris Bridges), Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuelle), and Roman Pierce (Tyrese Gibson) arrest the cyber terrorist, Cipher (Charlize Theron). However, he is soon saved by Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), rendering the entire state speechless. The trio seeks Dom’s help after discovering that Jakob is also involved with the mysterious Mr. Nobody.

Their main motto remains conquering Project Aries, a technological device that can hack into any computer weapons system. As Dom and Jakob clash against each other, their entire family and the Fast Saga clan are thrown into the war. The rest of the film is a series of eye-popping action sequences weaved through a string of mind-blowing veterans. In a classic format, the remaining scenes–especially the cliffhanger with Deckard and Han–pave a pathway for a follow-up film, Fast X which premiered in May 2023.
