A taut Telugu thriller, led by Kalyanam Kamaneeyam’s Satyam Rajesh and Baladitya, Maa Oori Polimera is a surprising hit. Post its release in December 2021 on Disney+ Hotstar, the ninety-eight-minute film instantly enamoured the audience. Its emphasis on witchcraft and dark magic propelled its success immensely and now, the Anil Vishwanath directorial has become a renowned saga. Both films successfully explore intense themes, creating a hazy mishmash of genres and story arcs. Despite being a relatively small film, in comparison to other Tamil/Telugu films exploring the same trope such as Kanchana, Maa Oori Polimera possesses an eery air of relativity. Though it is notorious for its easily predictable plot, the spurt of familiarity brought by Rajesh hits hard.

Unlike Kanchana and other similar films–and we all know that the Telugu industry has a plethora of such movies–Maa Oori Polimera is more concerned about the “who” rather than the “why”. It is probably the most compelling hook of both films since it ignites a roar of suspense that’s bound to keep you watching them till the end. Even Anil seems to agree as he continues adding twists and turns to the plot. Prior to the sequel’s release, he confirmed that “The climax sequence would surely shock the audiences”.
As for the upcoming iteration, Vishwanath seems to have similar plans. The director has locked the script for Maa Oori Polimera 3 and the filming is expected to commence in early 2024. If he manages to wrap up the shoot soon, the film could have a release date of mid-2025. However, nothing has been confirmed yet from the production team’s side.

Maa Oori Polimera Overview
In all its thrilling glory, Maa Oori Polimera is a classic Telugu thriller brimming with intense action sequences and occasional jokes. It follows an aspiring police officer, Jangaiah (Entha Manchivaadavuraa’s Baladitya), his auto-driver brother, Komaraiah (Satyam) and his wife Lachimi (Kamakshi Bhaskarla). While this family of three are enjoying a serene life, their exuberant village is in deep trouble. Death lingers in the air as mysterious occurrences become a norm. Upon the death of a pregnant lady, Kavitha, a wizard instructs her family to keep an eye on the corpse because someone has performed black magic on her.
According to him, whoever has indulged in this heinous ordeal would arrive again to complete the last step of his dark spell. As it happens, Komaraiah lingers in the cemetery and is burnt alive by the late Kavitha’s family. Jangaiah begins investigating the case to discover that it was Komaraiah who performed the orenda on Kavitha and other villagers. Moreover, he is still alive and is planning something more cataclysmic, away from the prying eyes of his brother.

As the sequel rolls on, the oddball characters pick up the sluggish note and transform it into a roller coaster ride. The director-slash-writer introduces a new conflict in the plot by introducing a temple into the mix of this black-magic-infused drama. The story thickens when Jangaiah discovers that Komaraiah is still alive and the battle between the two ensues.
Now that Maa Oori Polimera 3 is confirmed, it is expected to be as much of a spooky thriller as its predecessors. The plot would certainly revolve around the clash between the two brothers and unravel the mystery of the mystical temple. Vishwanath is certainly planning to conjure a realm of twist-a-minute screenplay but it remains to be seen how far the director is planning to take the mystery.
