The Tailor Season 2 Ending Explained: Do Peyami And Esvet Reunite?

Originally entitled Terzi, this mystery Turkish thriller revolves around a fashion designer who’s tormented by his dark past. With the first Turkish Netflix series, The Protector’s Çağatay Ulusoy in the lead role as Peyami Dokumaci, The Tailor Season 1 established quite an intriguing plotline. When Peyami’s best friend, Dimitri’s (Salih Bademci) fiance, Esvet (Şifanur Gül) seeks refuge in his home under the alias Firuze, chaos unfolds. She becomes his mentally unstable father, Mustafa’s (Olgun Şimşek) caregiver and slowly enamours the Dokumacis. Peyami and Esvet develop feelings for each other but his grandmother Sülün (Celile Toyon), leaks the identity of Esvet to Dimitri.

As The Tailor Season 1 climaxed, Dimitri and Peyami were at each other’s throats and Esvet was cradling a gun. As it turns out, instead of Dimitri, the bullet pierces Peyami’s shoulder, rendering him distorted in The Tailor Season 2. The major question you might have, just like I did, is whether Peyami and Esvet reunite after Dimitri snatches her away once again. Here’s the answer!

The Tailor Season 2 Recap

Directed by Cem Karci, The Tailor Season 2 commences with a loud commotion similar to its predecessor. However, in this season, Peyami isn’t being his usual self-centred fashion designer. Instead, he is harbouring heartache and is trying to wash down his sorrows with alcohol. The show takes a leap of a few weeks after Peyami is shot accidentally by Esvet. It showcases a physically stable Dokumaci in a bar where he comes across Cemre (Berrak Tüzünataç) and the two hit it off together.

Or more like, Peyami is trying to move on Esvet with Cemre. He even drags Cemre to Dimitri and Esvet’s wedding in the hope of suppressing his feelings. While Esvet tries her best to wriggle a reaction out of him, he holds onto his icy persona and flaunts his date. Eventually, Dimitri and Esvet get married and yes, I know it is a dealbreaker but the writers are determined to carry on the forbidden romance trope.

Even after Esvet marries Dimitri, she keeps frequenting Peyami’s mansion to take care of Mustafa and not so secretly watch the former. She keeps trying to pull Peyami out of the self-destruction mission he has embarked upon. But her efforts and Cemre’s lighthearted nudge don’t work, and Peyami keeps tumbling down into an abyss.

Why Does Peyami’s Mother Abandon Him?

It isn’t just Peyami who’s dealing with heartache but Dimitri, too, is devastated to witness his wife constantly favouring the former. Meanwhile, Mustafa’s mental health is challenged by the ghost of his past, Kiraz (Evrim Alasya). Throughout Season 1, Peyami has been struggling to find his mother and demands answers. But in this new season, he’s too focused on losing Esvet to care about anything else.

However, his fate doesn’t let him wallow in self-pity for long. After shattering glasses and breaking people’s hearts, he decides to follow Cemre’s advice. According to her, heartache could only be treated by death. But Peyami doesn’t die and instead, finally grasps the extent of his stupidity. Ever since the accident, he has been pushing people away and drowning in alcohol and now finally understands that he has to take the reigns of his life once again.

His resolve is soon threatened by Esvet who succeeds in finding his mother, Kiraz. She has been camouflaging her true identity by picking on a different name and working as a maid for Peyami. Kiraz once left her infant son and now, that son is harbouring a deep grudge against her.

Esvet, though, doesn’t let Peyami’s rage obliterate his relationship with Kiraz. She arranges a meeting for the duo despite being angry at Peyami for not fighting for their love. He, too, is burning with rage. But as Kiraz narrates her heart-wrenching story, Peyami finally calms down. She was hired by Sülün to bear kids with Mustafa and leave after giving birth to her grandchild. However, she fell in love with her child-like husband but couldn’t harbus kids for a long time.

Disappointed with her, Sülün kicked Kiraz out but by then she was pregnant. After she birthed Peyami, Sülün snatched him away from Kiraz and sent her away. Ever since Kiraz has been trying to gather the courage to stand up to her notoriously sadistic mother-in-law who is noticeably absent from Season 2. Upon hearing her story, Peyami relents and finally embraces his broken but beautiful family.

As The Tailor Season 2 nears the climax, Peyami hosts a grand fashion show to honour his father and reunite him with Kiraz. As his eyes meet Esvet’s, it becomes certain the fight is back in him. Though Esvet and Peyami do not reunite yet, the last few seconds of this eight-part series make it clear, their story isn’t over yet. A dynamic explosion and the ultimate fight between Peyami and Dimitri for Esvet is still remaining.
