The Politician Season 3 Release Date

In 2018, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan collaborated together to curate a series centred around an ambitious politician. They had a clear vision before them and knew of all the elements they wanted to instil in the series namely a tinge of innocence, bucketloads of passion, a sprinkle of drama and an ocean of push and pull in the world of politics. When Murphy is involved in a project, it is an unsaid rule that the series would be a simple yet punchy tale. This is why Netflix, Amazon and Hulu tried to lure Murphy and host The Politician.

Eventually, after the tug-of-war between the three, Netflix won the bid and The Politician Season 1 premiered on September 27, 2019, with eight episodes. Shortly after Season 1 hit the screens, the makers announced that a sequel was lined up for the next year. True to their words, The Politician Season 2, in all its tension-inducing reality-portraying glory made its way to Netflix. Bearing seven episodes Season 2 premiered on June 19, 2020.

As for The Politician Season 3, Murphy has a lot to say (more on that in just a minute!). He has exclusive plans for the series sans the release window. Yet, it is more or less confirmed that The Politician Season 3 is plausible even if Netflix has initially ordered only two seasons. If the production begins soon–which doesn’t seem to be the case yet–expect The Politician Season 3 to arrive by late 2024 or early 2025.

What Does Ryan Murphy Have To Say About The Politician Season 3?

Murphy has established quite a solid reputation for himself, especially after his complex film, The Watcher, garnered millions of fans. While he is known to manifest engrossing projects, he is also notorious for picturizing a universe in front of his eyes before embarking on a journey to translate his vision into cinema. With The Politician, Ryan has already imagined a three-season run for Payton.

According to Murphy, Payton needs to get more mature in order to be able to deal with the grand battle he’ll be accustomed to. Falchuk and Brennan have agreed to let Payton age a little, garner more experience in the field of politics and work a sweat. The plans for a third season have already been made which means The Politician Season 3 would likely keep us waiting for a while longer.

The Politician Season 1 Plot Details

Payton Hobart, a student at St. Sebastian High School decides to partake in the presidential elections for no other reason but to fulfil his childhood fantasy. It is his ambition, his dream to become a politician and the student body election is just the first step towards accomplishing the dream. However, there is a major issue here. Payton’s opponent is none other than his ex-boyfriend, River Barclay (David Corenswet), who is now dating Astrid Sloan (Lucy Boynton).

Barclay is just following the plan laid ahead of him by Sloan but he still possesses a soft corner for Payton. The extent of his feelings towards himself and Payton lead him to suicide and that stirs intense emotions in the series. Payton doesn’t let River’s suicide go to waste and continues striving to win the first election of his life. The Politician Season 1 hereby becomes all about stepping into the world of politics and dealing with setbacks. It is centred around prepping Payton to deal with an election way more cutthroat than the one he is dealing with.

The Politician Season 2 Overview

After chasing his passion in California, Payton arrives in New York to give wings to his dreams. This time, it isn’t a student body election but a ruthless haul to US Senate. His opponent wasn’t a fellow student but a highly experienced and dedicated politician, Dede Standish (Judith Light). Payton takes extra measures, crafts several plans and took politics to his heart literally. Hobart trailed after Standish and tried his best to reach her level but sadly, he kept missing a mile.

Frustration became his companion and Hobart, not for the first time, decided to up his game and beat Standish in her own battlefield. Payton exposed Dede in front of the Senate and cornered her. Not only did Hobart manage to sidestep Standish but also secured his position by luring the young voters. He made climate change his weapon, used his experience to garner the attention of the voters and became an influential senator. Meanwhile, Dede was elected as the vice president and well, all is well that ends well, right?

The Politician Season 3 Plot Details

In Payton’s world though, all isn’t well yet. He might have now gotten closer to his dream but the end goal is not achieved yet. He is a senator now on his way to becoming president and ruling the world of politics. Murphy has expressed his desire to let The Politician Season 3 be centred on Payton’s journey as he achieves the title of the next US President. Governing the country has always been Hobart’s dream and Murphy has curated plans along the same realm, too.

The third season in Hobart’s journey would not only be the final instalment in the series but also be the most epic one. If running for the senate has made Payton sweat, the presidential elections would make him drenched. It wouldn’t be easy of course, nothing about Payton’s journey has been sugarcoated or downplayed.

Payton Hobart will be seen as an older version of himself, holding a couple of years of experience and a dozen ruthless tricks under his belt. In the first season, he had to fake a breakup with his girlfriend, Alice Charles (Julia Schlaepfe) who is now his fiance. Payton threw caution out of the wind and took Dede by storm in the sequel. In this final season, Payton would chase his dream with no holds barrelled. Will his dream come true? The Politician Season 3 would be answering the question soon!
