The story follows the life of Natsu Dragneel, or Salamander, a dragon slayer, and Lucy Heartfelia, a celestial gatekeeper. Dragon slayers are extremely rare beings which are connected to the extinct dragons who once ruled the planet. Natsu belongs to the 1st Generation dragon slayers. 1st Generation dragon slayers are the only generation to have learnt from actual dragons, which is considered a hoax by many. Natsu believes that his father, Igneel, the fire dragon king, is still alive and dragons are not extinct. He searches for hints to prove his theory along with Lucy and his pet Happy, while performing heroic deeds to earn money for himself.
