Both of these action thrillers were released in the same year, yet only one of them managed to survive. Directed by Renny Harlin and distributed by Lionsgate, this compelling fantasy thriller was packed with sound action scenes. However many of the viewers do think that the creators diverted heavily from the original story. There is barely anyone out there who doesn’t know about the all-time famous Greek divine hero, Hercules. It is not the first time that we have seen a movie on the eye-catching Greek mythology! As per our observations, some parts of the film were heavily influenced by the ancient stories we have heard so far. But most of the things portrayed in the film were not inspired wholly by the mythological tales.

The writers of The Legend of Hercules, Daniel Giat and Sean Hood tried to present their version of Hercules and thus, created something new from the old stories! The ratings might look poor, but some did find the film very much fascinating. The very first half of The Legend of Hercules where we see how Zeus impregnates Alcmene was surely intriguing. Not only this, but the way Hercules made a comeback in his reign to regain what he had lost once, was also quite interesting to catch up with. Coming to the main discussion of the day, there are indeed too many stories around the origin of Hercules and so much of it surely can’t fit in a single film.

The Legend of Hercules – Synopsis At A Glance!

The negative criticisms can surely be a bummer for many but guess what, if you ignore the actual mythology, then you might view this film with a different perspective. Set around in a timeline of 1200 BC, we travel down to ancient Greece. This action fantasy begins with King Amphitryon of Tiryn and his extremely beautiful wife, Queen Alcmene. As he continues to conquer kingdoms and grow immensely powerful, we will see how his devastated wife prays to Hera for guidance. As a result, Hera’s husband Zeus impregnates Alcmene. And thus blesses her with a child, who will ultimately be the saviour of this huge empire. 

Thus, the demi-god is born. The ruler of Tiryn names him Alcides, while Alcmene prefers to stick to his true roots and continues to call him Hercules. Twenty years pass by and we will see how Princess Hebe is deeply in love with Prince Alcides. But their sweet love story will soon hit rock bottom when Hercules and Prince Iphicles are suddenly attacked by a Nemean lion! Since Hercules was both strong and brave, he easily managed to tackle the lion. But the credit for all his hard work was smartly stolen by his older brother, Iphicles! As the story progresses, to reward Iphicles for such a big win, Amphitryon openly announces the engagement of Hebe and Iphicles! 

While on the other hand, to finish the chapter of Hercules forever, he sends him away to a deadly military camp! Thus, the story brings us down to Egypt, where Hercules and Sotiris will eventually be sold off as slaves to Lucius! But this is where Hercules’ actual journey as an undefeated gladiator gears up. To fight against Amphitryon’s campaign of tyranny, Hercules and Sotiris decide to form an army of their own. But to know what ultimately lies in their future, you surely need to binge this film online.
