Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery Story revolves around the character of Mahima. She is a police officer, but as mentioned above, she had to face obstacles in her life due to her cast. Not only does her cast hinder her progress, but her identity as a woman makes her prey to the patriarchal society.
The film circles the case of two missing Kathals or jackfruits. These kathals belong to the MLA Munnalal Pateria and he has to find them anyhow because he has promised a higher authority that we would make pickles out of them and send them as a gift.
The police station, thus, ignores all other important cases, including the case of the missing daughter of the MLA’s gardener and starts their search for the kathals. It is only Mahima who understands that searching for the fruit is fruitless, and she has to save this missing girl whose name is Amiya.
At the end of the film, Mahima is successful in finding Amiya and bringing her back to the security of her home. The ending of the film shows us how corrupt these politicians can be and how they can make everybody suffer because of their selfish interests.
