An Inspector Calls Ending Explained: Who Is The Real Inspector?

Many of you may have heard of this movie because there are many adaptions to the movie and there have been many different portrayals of the main story; however, this movie has been the most popular for its 2015 adaptation we are talking about right now. An Inspector Calls Ending Explained

As we move towards the end of the movie, we see Inspector Goole, who has knocked on the doors of the Birling family, leaves after taking up the confessions of everything the Birling family members have done to Eva and soon they think that they will be taken into jail after their confessions have been recorded.

Though Arthur Birling soon ended you calling the police station to check on Inspector Goole and ended up finding that there have been no new transfers by the name of Mister Goole and there have been no suicides recorded by the name of Eva Smith. Though Arthur is very happy, both his children end up bursting into cries and feeling guilty for what they have done to the innocent life.

The ending is basically that Mr. Goole was a god, who came to the world and ended up making the Birling family realize what they have done to the innocent little girl, and then as we have seen in the first scene of the movie, a person is asking Eva whether she believes in god, it was inspector Goole or the portrayal of god, who has come to help her and make the birling family realize their wrong deeds, after which Eva finally ends up killing herself.

An Inspector Calls Story

For the story who have not watched the movie, this will include some spoilers, we get to see Inspector Goole knocking on the door of the Birling family with a picture of Eva Smith according to him who has committed suicide. Now one by one, all the birling family members confess their sin, including Arthur terminating her from the factory because of her rebellious nature, asking for higher pay, and not settling for Arthur’s inequality.

Then we have Sheila, who got fired from the dress shop, she was working in because Eva smirked a little and Sheila got offended. Following that Gerald has come to ask the hand of Sheila, being sexually related to Eva and then leaving her by her own means.

Finally, we see both Sibyl doing wrong to her, even though being a kind lady, not helping her when she had a child and the child at the end was Eric, who raped Eva when he was drunk and after that asked to marry her. All these confessions we get seen throughout the story and the only reason Inspector Goole or the messenger of God came to the Birling family, was to make them realize their faults and nothing else.
