The anime follows Maru and Tokio in post-apocalyptic Japan. The world is destroyed and aliens have taken over the tarnished world. These aliens roam on the Earth at night time and feast on humans. To protect themselves, humans have created an isolated world for themselves and have named it Heaven. Here lives a hopeful girl named Tokio who receives a cryptic message asking her whether she wants to get out. This message leaves Tokio anxious and upset since Heaven is a safe haven no one is allowed to leave.
On the other hand, Tokio’s best friend, Mimihime, receives a prophecy and narrates it to Tokio. According to the prophecy, there is a boy who is searching for this institution aka Heaven and possesses the same face as Tokio. Ridiculing her, Tokio moves ahead with her life but Mimihime’s prophecy comes true as Maru (Tokio’s doppelganger) wanders in search of Heaven with his best friend, Kiruko.

The anime is led by Maru voiced by Gen Sato in Japanese and Jonathan Leon in English. Maru is a 15-year-old boy who possesses exceptional martial arts skills.
