Just after season 2 ended, the makers didn’t waste any time and renewed the show for a third season.

But coming to the main question is the K-drama Taxi Driver based on a true story? Is it actually inspired by true events? Well, worry not, here’s everything we know about.

Is Taxi Driver Based On A True Story?

Here’s a straight answer to this question, Yes, a Taxi driver is based on actual life events. It is inspired by the heinous crime activities that happened in Korea. The show is not about taxis, it is actually about a very weird company named, The Rainbow Company which is a taxi company.

So, the company works in a very different manner. It helps its clients take revenge by fighting violence, but not with non-violence, it does it with violence only.

In the year, 2008, a man named Cho Doon Soon assaulted and sexually harassed an 8-year-old girl. The crime was so heinous, that the girl’s organs even fell off due to the damage the guy caused. Though, the girl was rushed to the hospital and was saved but she is still in a permanent damage.

When asked about the same, Cho said that he was heavily drunk that day, and he couldn’t make any correct decisions. The guy was imprisoned for 12 years and was recently released in 2020. This guy was actually punished in the show (fictionally) but the audience wanted that. You might have also seen this case in the show itself.

Another true story that the show covered was of disabled people who were trafficked and forced to work in a factory for salted seafood. They were assaulted at the workplace. Even some of the women workers successfully got out of there, but the police officers sent them back. This same incident happened back in Korea on Purple Island.

Two disabled people named Kim and Chae were sold to the same island to work in the factory. The workers there used to work 18 hours a day and were given 5 hours of sleep, with no extra money. The two men have tried many times to run away from there, but they were never successful. They were also given death threats.

The show covered this aspect too.

Overall, Taxi Driver has covered a lot of true crime stories that happened over the years in Korea and that makes it more connected to the audience.
