Shahmaran is a legendary character in Turkish and Kurdish folklore. It is commonly portrayed as a snake or dragon with a woman’s head. Shahmaran’s story has been handed down orally for many years.
Based on this tradition, Netflix launched a brand-new drama and fantasy series in January 2023 named Shahmaran. It became popular with viewers who appreciate mythology and drama.

Shahmaran Season 1 Summary
Sahsu is a Ph.D. candidate from Istanbul who accepts a position as a guest lecturer in Adana. There she met her grandfather (Davut), who abandoned her mother, who is dead now. At the beginning of the series, we can witness that Sahsu has no emotions attached to her grandfather.
Maran is the neighbor of his grandfather, and his family, including his father Ural and his sisters, are all basilisks, which are hybrids of humans and snakes. Maran’s family believes that Sahsu is a key component of a mystical prophecy. The relationship between Maran and Sahsu is one of love. The series entails the dilemma of Maran between his desires and duty towards his family.
Shahmaran Season 2
In the new season of the series, we are expecting a significant twist and turn, as at the end of the last season, the prophecy was revealed to Sahsu by Maran, but he was not trained for the final part.
There are still a number of mysteries to be solved in Season 2, such as,
- What will be the final part of the prophecy?
- What is the real identity of Sahsu?
- Will there be any new characters in the remainder of the story?
- Who was the mysterious woman in the castle?

We will undoubtedly see all those former cast members together if we do get a new season.

Most of the critics say that the first few episodes are just a build-up and might not interest you, but after 3–4 episodes, the series will leave you in suspense. The overall cinematic and sound experience is also fantastic. The love story between the two lead characters will surely melt you.
