The Mummy has been a hit series since it was first released. In 1932, The Mummy was first made, then in 1999, it was made again by director and writer Stephen Sommers. This movie was an attempt to update the original and the first movie in 1932, to make it more modern in 1999. Hence, we had two such movies. Then in 2017, The Mummy was revived with a new movie with the same title starring Tom Cruise. This movie was about ancient Egypt; when an ancient Egyptian princess awakens, she brings evil and terrors beyond human comprehension. The movie was directed by Alex Kurtzman. The Mummy trilogy has kept the fans in its gravity for a long time. There have been a lot of movies made after that in an attempt to quench the thirst of the fans who are still looking for a similar viewing experience like The Mummy. Although not all of these reach the beauty and the level on which The Mummy was, this list indeed contains the movies that you can watch that give somewhat similar experiences.

Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
This movie was released in 1984, and it served as a prequel to Indiana Jones’ chronological adventures that were released in 1981. The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie was not received in a good manner and was not held in high spirits. The fans and critics claimed that the movie was way too dark than it was supposed to be and way more than they expected it ought to be. Indiana Jones was dropped in India, where he came across a lot of dark magic, cult-like practices, and sacrificial rituals from which he had to rescue a lot of innocent civilians.
This movie was about the people asking him to find a mystical stone and save this little boy from the cult called Thuggee cult who were avid practitioners of child slavery and also indulged in many sacrifices to honor the goddess Kali.
Despite the movie being criticized, it was nominated for best original score at the Academy Awards. The movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was later released five years later in 1989.
Nevertheless, this movie is a great ride for adventure lovers.
The Mummy: Tomb of Dragon Emperor (2008)
This movie is another marvelous watch. This movie was the next in the series of “The Mummy” and “The Mummy returns”. This movie took on to show the ancient history of China. This movie also starred Brendan Fraser. The story showed the ancient empires of China where a warlord tried to unify the different empires and then became the Dragon Emperor. This film’s visual effects are stunning, and the plot is just as exciting as the first two. To make the film more authentic, the designers used real paint splatters and brushes, which did something to the film. However, Weisz does not reprise her role as Evelyn in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. She left the project during pre-production because she was unhappy with the script.
This movie is indeed an apt fit for lovers of the previous movies.
By updating a Universal monster movie with sweeping adventure, grand scale, and a sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance at its center, director Stephen Sommers found two massive back-to-back successes. This movie, one of the most loved movies from the gothic horror genre written by Stephen Sommers, was released in 2004. This movie is action-packed with all the supernatural things you could ask for, vampires and werewolves, we also have Mr. Hyde, and there are a lot of other monsters. There are many big names acting in it, like Hugh Jackman, who is in the lead role playing the role of Gabriel Van Helsing, and then we have Kate Beckinsale as Anna Valerious.
Gabriel Van Helsing, who was a famous monster hunter, was assigned the task of taking down Count Dracula in Transylvania. Count Dracula was trying to use Frankenstein’s monster to use the power wielded for the birth of his children. Interestingly the main character, Van Helsing, was inspired by a character in the book Dracula written by the Irish author Bram Stoker. The character in the book is named Abraham Van Helsing.
This is another great fit for all The Mummy fans out there.

The action scenes and the amazing direction makes this movie worthy of being on our list, and you should definitely watch this one. The movie received heavy criticism from the Catholic Church. There were many urges to boycott the movie. However, they denied all the accusations, and the movie grossed $224 million in the opening weekend itself. Journey To The Center Of The Earth
This movie from 2008 is a solid family drama packed with some fine adventure scenes and special effects that will keep you engrossed. The movie revolves around a family with a teenage kid named Sean, who was dropped off at his uncle’s place after his mother, Elizabeth, was making preparations to move to Canada. His uncle was a professor, and his name was Professor Trevor Anderson. Sean also had a brother who went missing, and the entire movie just becomes about this uncle and Sean going on a quest to find out what had happened to Sean’s missing brother.
The movie has been inspired by a novel named “Journey to the center of the earth”, written by Jules Verne. The people in the movie, while trying to uncover certain truths about their lost family member, end up discovering this fantastic world that was lost in the center of the earth.
The Scorpion King
This movie was released in 2002. The Mummy Returns introduced Dwayne Johnson as Mathayus, the Scorpion King, who strikes a deadly bargain with Anubis for power in exchange for eternal damnation. We have Dwayne Johnson playing the scorpion King in this movie. This movie was released one year after The Mummy returned and was set in ancient Egypt, following the life of an Akkadian Mercenary named Mathayus. Mathayus had to assassinate Memnon, who is an evil ruler. As our titular king, Johnson embarks on a solo, original adventure, the movie was well received.
It is an excellent blend of action, fantasy, and adventure, and The Scorpion King is a refreshingly old-school action-adventure, a solid piece of craftsmanship that delivers thrills from a character-driven place and a welcomely self-contained story of human decisions affecting each other.
National treasure was released in 2004. The reason this movie is on our list is that the visual effects in the film are fantastic, making it an exciting and enjoyable film to watch. This is one of the best action-adventure films you should watch.
The movie revolves around a historian named Benjamin Gates, played by Nicholas Cage, who is trying to find a treasure hidden by the United States’ founding fathers. His entire family was a bunch of treasure hunters; they all had been obsessed with the idea of finding this treasure that was hidden somewhere. National Treasure works because of Nicolas Cage and his oddball energy, much like how the success of the Mummy’s aesthetic radiates outward from its central duo.
Another interesting thing to note is that both The Mummy and this movie, National Treasure produced their sequels as well. National treasure: Book of secrets was released in 2007. This movie was also liked a lot, and it followed Ben trying to search the city of gold to save his family’s name from being framed for the murder of Abraham Lincoln.
This movie was released in 2005. It’s a charming action comedy that will pique your inner traveler’s interest. The movie had actors like Penelope Cruz and Matthew McConaughey in lead roles. The movie was directed by Breck Eisner.
The story revolved around Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino as they tried to search for a confederate ship that was lost somewhere in the Sahara Desert. Penélope Cruz plays a World Health Organization doctor investigating a deadly disease spreading across Mali against the backdrop of a vicious dictator attempting ethnic cleansing of his people and a group of rich, white imperialists attempting to maintain their financial interests while turning a blind eye to the horrors around them. Caught in the middle of events, our hero discovers that there is more to the mysterious disease afflicting the native populace.
This is a fantastic ancient adventure film that will keep you entertained, throughout it, though it is not as good as The Mummy, and many a time Sahara is perplexing, a nightmare of tonal extremes, a series of whiffs that have no sense of cause and effect, the movie still has some great elements.
Pirates Of The Caribbean And The Curse Of Black Pearl
This movie was released in 2003 and was directed by Gore Verbinski. The Pirates of the Caribbean series has been very popular among fans. The actors also add an extra charm to the series, and we have Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley in their respective lead roles.
This movie has good old pirate storytelling, but it has also been primarily influenced by numerous folklore and partly by movies like The Adventures of Robin Hood and The Mark of Zoro. This movie, with its horror and dark comedic tones, is an apt movie to watch by people who are eager to watch something like The Mummy. However, Black Pearl is looser, weirder, and wilder than The Mummy, but it retains The Mummy’s razor-sharp sense of pacing and stakes. To be sure, The Mummy is a playful film, but it feels embedded within the confines of its genre.
This movie revolves around Hector Barbossa, who belongs to the Black pearl ship and is leading this group of undead pirates. They all kidnap the daughter of the Governor, Elizabeth Swan. Then our famous Jack Sparrow and Will Turner go and rescue her. This film is credited with resurrecting the pirate genre, and the character of Jack Sparrow deserves special recognition for being one of the most entertaining protagonists ever. This is a fantastic adventure film with plenty of action to keep you entertained. It’s one of the best movies in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.
The Great Wall
This movie was released in 2016 and was directed by Zhang Yimou. The movie centers around a European mercenary warrior who gets restrained by these Chinese forces after being attacked by a monster. He was there to look for gunpowder near the Great Wall of China. However, later on, there is an alien attack, so he ends up being teamed with the combat forces.
Not only do you get to see the heroes battling monsters in this film, but it’s also one of the most visually stunning films ever made. This movie, The Great Wall, was also the first English-language movie by director Zhang.
This movie was released in 2007 and was directed by Matthew Vaughn. Stardust, while a little more traditional in its approach to fantasy-adventure, is still one of the most swashbuckling, romantic, and all-around best spiritual successors to The Mummy you’ll find. The movie is based on a novella by Neil Gaiman. In Stardust, a trio of witches seeking eternal youth feed on the hearts of fallen stars in order to remain eternally young.
The story follows a young man Tristan Thorne who hailed from a small village in England. He goes on a journey to find the fallen star. The cast included Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, and the famous Robert Di Niro. The movie is quite similar to The Mummy because of the darkness, the pursuit of a monster, and the enemy lovers’ dynamic.
The film is an excellent blend of fantasy and adventure that will keep you entertained from start to finish.
The Librarian: Quest For The Spear
The movie was made by David Titcher, a writer, in an adventurous and wild collaboration with director Peter Winther in 2004. The movie was very intriguing and a magnificent work of art. This movie follows the protagonist Flynn Carsen played by Noah Wyle, a prodigy sort of boy whose entire life revolves around his college. He has been in college for a long time, almost perpetually. Flynn is in her thirties and has a total of twenty-two college degrees; however, he is on his way to getting his twenty-third one. However, before this could happen, both his professor and his mother think that he should go out in the world more often and see what the real world outside his college is like, and they agree that Flynn lacks real-life experiences. So, he is kicked out.
Then he gets an uncanny invitation for a prestigious position in the Metropolitan Public Library. He is given the responsibility of protecting magical items that were stored in a secret place, and he soon realizes that the job is not as simple as it seems, and then his journey begins. Quest for the Spear is a lot of fun and intrigue, and it gives the two’s romance a new kind of spark that plays with genuine affection and cleverness.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider- Cradle Of Life
This movie was released way back in 2003. This action and adventure film was directed by Jan de Bont and is also based on a video game series named Tomb Raider. Apart from praising the marvelous acting by Angelina Jolie, critics praised Lara Croft: Tomb Raider- Cradle Of Life as an improvement over its predecessor, particularly in the action sequences.
The movie revolves around Treasure Hunter Lara Croft, who suddenly has to unearth a mysterious lob that leads to the existence of Pandora’s box, which was only supposed to be a myth. Angelina Jolie reprises her role as Lady Croft in this action-packed sequel, taking her adventures to a global scale as she tracks the orb and follows leads to find the box. This movie was a bigger hit than the previous one.
The mythological elements and the action sequences in the movie make it eerie and similar to The Mummy.
