Zee Studios released the trailer of Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited upcoming movie ‘Ram Setu’ on its official YouTube Channel on Tuesday. The trailer starts with a strong dialogue that goes something like ‘This country runs on the belief in Lord Ram’ and then, all of a sudden, the Indian government is shown to be lodging an appeal in the Supreme Court demanding Ram Setu to be demolished. In times like these, where our current government is all-inclusive towards issues like Ram Mandir, the trailer is bound to get an interesting response all over India.

Akshay Kumar’s character is shown to be sent on an archaeological expedition to Ram Setu, to prove its history and to save it from being demolished. Around two weeks ago, the ‘First Glimpse of The World of Ram Setu’ also trended at #1 on YouTube in India. This goes to show how excited people are for its release as Bollywood has changed its ways from making sappy romances to historical dramas like Ram Setu.

Ram Setu Release Date

The action-adventure film is all set to hit the theatres on October 25, 2022, on the auspicious occasion of Deepawali which will also be a national holiday. The information was made public on August 2022. The makers also shared the official poster of Ram Setu in late April earlier this year which was met with a mixed response from the audience including the netizens.

In fact, on November 14, 2020, the official announcement of the film was made and it was expected to be released in 2021. The release got delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which compelled the filmmakers to postpone the shooting and other important aspects related to the movie.

The film will be available to stream worldwide on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video after some time of its theatrical release. It is also interesting to know that Ram Setu is Amazon Prime Video’s first Bollywood production in India.

According to the director Abhishek Sharma, since he came to know about a court case about the demolition of Ram Setu in 2007, he has been trying to build a plot around which the film’s story would revolve.

After almost fifteen years of immense hard work on the script, the filmmakers have developed a plot where an archaeologist (Akshay’s character in the movie) goes on an expedition to Ram Setu, in order to prove that it is an important historical heritage of India, thus saving it from being demolished, in just three days. He is shown to challenge the belief that Ram Setu is real or not. He explains the meaning of the Hindi word ‘history’ known as ‘itihaas’, calling it ‘it thus happened.’ The trailer also reveals that he was sent on that mission to eventually die, thus failing in his main objective. Even then, he doesn’t lose hope and is shown to come out of the sea with a rock on his shoulders, saying, “There are lakhs of Lord Ram temples in India, but Ram Setu is only one.”

According to media reports on March 21, it was confirmed that Nushrratt Bharuccha and Jaqueline Fernandez were signed up for the movie. Later, in June 2021, it was also announced that this movie would be the Bollywood debut of Telugu actor Satyadev Kancharana. So, that’s something the audience can look forward to.

The supporting cast includes actors such as Shubham Jaykar, Jennifer Piccinato, Pravesh Rana, Sharik Khan, Muqadas Farooq Awan, Nassar, Ajay Lobo, Prashant Kumar, Jaykant Bhardwaj, Naresh Narayan, Katiyar King, Joynal Abeden, Amardeep Chahal and more.

According to the trailer, Akshay Kumar is an archaeologist, who is an atheist and he must go beyond his boundaries in order to save the national heritage of India which is Ram Setu from being erased forever. The viewers should expect many twists and turns in this engaging action-packed adventure-drama.
