In the novel, Kalki Krishnamurthy skipped that part and showed that when Aditya Karikalan went to meet Nandini, as you may know, he liked her. In the palace, when Nandini invites him, she wishes to kill him and thus plans with his husband, Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, who is an important person in the Chola dynasty, as he is the treasurer. When Nandini invites Aditya Karikalan, he goes because he loves her and feels like this is a love invitation by Nandini.
When Aditya Karikalan is in the palace with Nandini, Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, and others. Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar is in with her plan for Nandini but later decides to prove his loyalty and throws the knife at his wife, Nandini. Still, the knife accidentally goes toward Aditya Karikalan, and he gets stabbed to death. The twists come when Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar reveals that he did not kill Aditya Karikalan in front of Aazhvarkadiyar and everyone. Manimekalai tries to save Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar and turns herself in, but no one believes her story, so the death of Aditya Karikalan is somewhat of a mystery. Some thought it was Nandini because she had clear intentions to kill Aditya Karikalan, but who was the real killer? People believe that this cliffhanger is the greatest in the world of literature. Ponniyin Selvan, or PS-1, was released on 30 September, and even a second part is coming soon. Mani Ratnam said that the movie was shot together and it was later decided to cut it into two parts. So the movie is shot only the post-productions are left; with that calculation, we can expect Ponniyin Selvan 2 or PS-2 somewhere in 2023.
