The Tale of the Heike, a classic 13th-century period drama that chronicles the emergence and decline of the Taira clan, was translated into contemporary Japanese in 2016 by Hideo Furukawa and is the basis for the Japanese original web animation series The Heike Story. From September 16 to November 25, 2021, the show was shown on the Japanese streaming platforms Fuji TV on Demand and Funimation. It was developed by Science SARU and managed by Naoko Yamada. From January 13 to March 17, 2022, a Japanese television program on Fuji TV’s +Ultra programming block was broadcast. Biwa encounters Taira no Shigemori, the heir of the formidable Taira clan engaged in a battle for dominance after the passing of her blind father. Shigemori also possesses the ability to see ghosts, and he can see them with one of his eyes. He can see how his clan contributed to the death of Biwa’s father thanks to this ability.

The Heike Story Season 1 Review
In all honesty, how much you like history will determine how much you like this. Since history is one of my passions, and I don’t know nearly enough about Japanese history, this performance was a tremendous treat for me. Searching for the Heike family on Google and effectively spoiling certain things wasn’t a treat. Therefore, if you are familiar with the story and want to watch this adaptation, go ahead; you will still find it entertaining. Just go into the narrative unaware if you’re like me and didn’t know, and binge it before your curiosity takes over. Mike McFarland was the vocal director for this one, and I slowly realized that he consistently produces high-quality work. This fantastic voice cast conveys the historical drama vibe you would want in a game like this. The primary character, Biwa, is portrayed by Xanthe Huynh, and I adore all of her parts. This is not an anomaly. It’s impressive from an animation aspect, as usual from Science SARU. After all, they are the production company behind Devilman Crybaby. Every episode is dripping with watercolour style. Every tiny brushstroke was applied with care, giving the impression that a Japanese masterpiece had come to life.
Hitsuji Bangaku’s “Hikaru Toki” serves as the song’s opening track. I adore this one because of how effectively the visuals from the show are incorporated, and it fits the anime. We have a “unified perspective” by a graph with ANI as the epilogue. It’s difficult to rate this one because I genuinely like it, and it’s beautiful when the beat drops. Although seeing the coming generations version of Biwa in it is cool, it doesn’t match the program well. Nevertheless, I added both of these fantastic tunes to my playlist. Finally, I believe The Heike Story to be a great anime.
