Soorarai Pottru is based on a book called ‘Simply Fly. The book is fictiously written on the life of Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath. Gr Gopinath aka Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar Gopinath comes from a small village in Karnataka. After studying his high school in Karnataka, he rolled in for defense examinations. He sat for the National Defence Academy exams and cleared them in the first go. He then joined the armed forces and also participated in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.

In the year 1996, he got his interest in doing business in the aviation sector. Before coming to this, he also did some other works in different niches for business but later found that the aviation sector is the one to go for. Finally, in the year 2003, he developed Air Deccan and was successful in giving India its first low-cost aviation, After 4 years, the company was sold to Kingfisher for 1000 crore.

On 13 April 2019, the name of the film was released along with the poster. In April the production started. The film was shooted in various places in India. Due to this pandemic, production work was suspended keeping in mind of Covid 19 guidelines. Finally, fan’s got to see the whole film in November. Soorarai Pottru is an action drama film.
