After starting in theatre, Stiller created several mockumentaries before being offered his program, The Ben Stiller Program, which he developed and presented during its 13-episode run. He started acting in movies after performing on television. Reality Bites served as his feature film directing debut.

Stiller reportedly engaged Calista Flockhart, Amanda Peet, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. In a Hawaii beachside event in May 2000, Stiller wed actress Christine Taylor. The two fell in love while producing a Fox television pilot that was never shown. In various movies, notably “Zoolander,” “Tropic Thunder,” & “Arrested Development,” they have shared screen time. Ella Olivia, a daughter, but Quinlin Dempsey, a son, were born to them both. In “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” Quinlan co-starred as the cub version of his dad’s character, Alex, alongside a youngster named Declan Swift. Sadly, following 17 years of marriage, Ben & Christine ended their relationship in May 2017.
